Genie47 1st Gear May 30, 2005 Share May 30, 2005 (edited) The oil is not clear like water. It is clear as in like cooking oil clear. Not supposed to be brown but amber. Lets say if compared with Delo 400. Delo 400 definitely darker amber/brown but not Conoco. It is like cooking oil. My Citgo is also cooking oil clear as well. Cordia_gsr Neutral Newbie May 30, 2005 Share May 30, 2005 talking about color, RP is even darker than used oil
Genie47 1st Gear May 30, 2005 Share May 30, 2005 The clear color is the base stock. The oil w/o any of the additives to make it into engine oil. Once paraffinic oil is hydrocracked, yes it is clear as water but that is the pure oil and nothing else! Can use in your Civic lah! No worries. Kohks Neutral Newbie May 30, 2005 Author Share May 30, 2005 btw cxxxxxe or at least those oil that i use ie, mobil 1, helix mineral or syn, TOTAL mineral oil.... all these oil are amber clear or brown clear. so nothing special with Diamond or rather HYDROCLEAR. i really thought it will be water clear.... Genie47 1st Gear May 30, 2005 Share May 30, 2005 RP got dye inside. Darker than used oil. Yep! But the color is cool. Do you know that Castrol SLX-A3 0W30 comes in green! That is why the US users are called elves. But now, the oil comes in amber no more green. A lot of elves unhappy.
Genie47 1st Gear May 30, 2005 Share May 30, 2005 But there are some that are very dark amber. Delo 400 which packed with additives is very dark. cxxxxxe is also very dark. BTW, Conoco has loads of calcium. Very good cleaning agent. The calcium is higher than any oil I have analyzed.
Cordia_gsr Neutral Newbie May 30, 2005 Share May 30, 2005 Yep, the greeny oil haha. Anyway, these dye pigments usually diminished by 1000km as far as i can remember when i was using the RP and SLX. I still remember those mechanics asking me when i brought my own RP for oil change: "what kind of hell oil is this, used oil??? Might be better off not changing!" haha... Genie47 1st Gear May 30, 2005 Share May 30, 2005 According to the BITOGers. The dye is the most expensive component in the oil . More expensive than the antiwear additives and extreme pressure additives. Buying these dyed oil might be going to the cost of the dye itself! Anyway, RP works very well. Elfenstar 3rd Gear May 30, 2005 Share May 30, 2005 Is there a purpose for the dye or are they just plain "hiao"? And what kind of places do analysis of used engine oil? Most mechs don't even think of it.
Genie47 1st Gear May 30, 2005 Share May 30, 2005 Most mechs will not do it but aircraft mech will. Anyway I send mine to the US. The study is over. I have determined 30wt oil and below to be beneficial to my engine and it likes moly a lot. Back to the question, yes, the oil manufacturer is hiao. Royal Purple must be purple mah or else how can it be Royal PURPLE. The oil is so purple until Orh orh one. As for SLX-A3, I think Castrol thinks the dye is too expensive which explains why it is now amber. Many elves want to shoot arrows at Castrol . Cordia_gsr Neutral Newbie May 30, 2005 Share May 30, 2005 Just wondering, do you happen to notice usually at which KM your engine oil starts to change the pigmentation color?
Genie47 1st Gear May 30, 2005 Share May 30, 2005 The RP? Around 200 to 500 AKA one tank of petrol. ↡ Advertisement
