Just had my 1st servicing around 10,000km, and my fuel consumption actually improved significantly! For the usual trip from my parents-in-law's place to mine, the onboard computer improved as follows:

Before: 8.2 km/100 litre = 12.1 km/litre

Now: 7.5 km/`00 litre = 13.3 km/litre

This is amazing for a luxury sedan like the E Class carrying my full family load! The M271 engine is definitely very frugal. [drivingcar]

I guess the first engine oil is thicker to allow for wearing in of the engine. It's now showing it's true potential with the change in engine oil. [thumbsup]

the best gauge for fuel consumption would be for a longer travel distance, perhaps if you monitor for about 2-3 full tanks, then the numbers will be more realistic. A short distance travelled can easily manipulated by number of traffic light stops, avg speed, ambient temperature, etc. But if it really is about 14km/l, that is fantastic! [flowerface]

the official figures for the E200K combined cycle is 11.4km/l for a 2.0L supercharged engine manual, the auto version gets 11.2km/l

the official figures for a Ford Mondeo 2.0Ghia is 12.8km/l for NA manual and 11km/l for auto.

the merc supercharged 2.0 does 0-62mph

manual 9.6 s

Mondy Ghia NA 2.0 duratec

manual 9.8s

The M271 is 1.8 litre supercharged, not 2.0L. The 2.0L is the older version that is not as good both power and FC wise.

I've been monitoring over several tanks, and consistently, the E200K is better than my Sunny 1.6 in FC.

The night I clocked that FC was from Sembawang to Siglap at moderate traffic.

Even for normal day to day driving, getting 8 to 9 litre/100km is the norm for this M271 engine. [thumbsup]

I wonder how accurate the meter is sometimes.

I once idled the car for a few hours and it read 40+L/100km [sweatdrop]

Actually, it is pretty accurate, right from the start of calculation up to the present moment. If you're idling, it assumes you intent to continue to idle without moving, or simply inching. Hence the FC then.

To check on FC on a trip, I reset the computer and start from there.

Anyway, one full tank of 65 litre consistently gives me about 800km => 12.3 km/litre. This is inclusive of getting in city jams etc. So to achieve my FC that night travelling from Semawang to Siglap via CTE and PIE is expected [thumbsup]

that's great news then!

as for better than Sunny Auto FC, having driven it, i can say that most everything is better than Sunny Auto FC ! [lipsrsealed]

Did u ever do the calculation urself instead of using the onboard trip com to verify the outstanding results? Just a thought [flowerface]

wow! that is amazing! it also comes with the 'Kompressor' which is a kind of light turbo is it? That's something not even japs like Toyota and Honda can match....

I believe this engine is used in the C180 and 200 also. I wonder if FC would be even better since it C class is lighter than E class.....
