2013 Mini Countryman John Cooper Works (JCW) to be previewed at Geneva
Rigval posted a blog entry in MyAutoBlog
The Mini Countryman is basically a 5 door hatchback that unlike its namesake is actually popular with urban motoring instead of acutally being used in the countryside. Its tall and largish profile (especially for a Mini) means that it has been embraced as a lifestyle vehicle and as a good vehicle for soccer mums and the sort. But whatever the reason people have for buying the Countryman, they can now buy the Countryman in the uprated John Cooper Works variant. This 2013 model is set for its official preview at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show and it is due to be on sale by fall/winter of this year. This performance variant brings it closer in terms of spirit to the WRC Mini Countryman. Or so I'd like to think. Because if I didn't think so I'd just think that the 2012 Mini Countryman John Cooper Works edition is a tarted up, slightly obese vehicle that thinks that it is a mini-sized vehicle. So like any John Cooper Works (JCW) Mini, it will have all the go-fast bits that you'd expect. Exernally it gets a more aggressive bodykit, JCW badging, sports suspension and larger 18inch alloy wheels. Brakes, exhaust sytem and the 1.6liter engine gets the usual upgrading too. The turbocharged engine now makes 215hp and 280Nm torque with 300Nm available on overboost for short periods of time. Performance figures for the 2013 Countryman JCW are 0-100km/h in 7seconds and a top speed of 225km/h. As it has a reasonably small 1.6liter engine, the Countryman JCW consume 7.2ltr/100km in manual and 8.0ltr/100km in automatic. The Mini Countryman is basically an effort for BMW Mini to bring the Mini concept to those who have families and need the extra space-

The Hyundai Veloster Turbo - An affordable 'coupe' that may not make it here
Rigval posted a blog entry in MyAutoBlog
[extract] Hyundai has unveiled the European specced Veloster Turbo at Geneva. This turbocharged version of the quirky Veloster brings a little more power to the car that has all the styling of speed but saddled with only 140 horses from its normally aspirated 1.6-litre engine. With the application of a turbocharger, the Hyundai Veloster Turbo makes 183bhp and about 270Nm torque. Good for the affordable single rear door coupe to have a 0-100km/h time of 8.4seconds compared to the 9.7seconds of the 1180kg normally aspirated car. - The normally aspirated Veloster- This is actually an affordable fastback cum coupe for the masses but unfortunately for us over here, Hyundai has not even brought in the normally aspirated model pictured above. The right hand drive variant has been launched early 2011 and it is already being sold in the UK and Australia. This brings us to the problem of affordability- 2 comments

Land Rover's Range Rover Evoque Convertible Concept is stunning
Rigval posted a blog entry in MyAutoBlog
[extract] A few of my friends recently test drove the 2012 Range Rover Evoque and most of them basically decided that those that decided to save SG$20,000 or thereabouts for the BMW X3 or the Audi Q5 must have been either mad or simply too 'poor' to afford that extra amount asked by Range Rover for the Evoque. The car is totally 'worth' the SG$260,000 in terms of looks and its interior appointments. It looks stunning in the flesh and is one of those cars that one yearn to own. If one could afford it of course. Anyway, what owners of Range Rover, Land Rover has done is come up with another stunning Evoque, in a chunky Tonka toy sort of way-
