  1. Hi everyone, I'm sure most of us here are pets lovers and have a kind heart towards animals. An non-profit animal shelter at Pasir Ris is appealing for URGENT help. http://www.animalloversleague.com/ HELP US KEEP THEIR HOME! Animal Lovers League (ALL) is now facing a critical situation and we need to raise $40k by end Aug 2013. For over 10 years, ALL has been a refuge for the homeless, a safe haven for the abused and abandoned, and a sanctuary for the old and sick animals. Food, shelter, care and medical expenses for 600 animals cost us more than $30,000 every month and have taken a huge toll on our finances. We are now $40,000 in arrears. Our founders are weary. They have dedicated much of their lives to these animals and now they face the grim possibility of having to give up the home they have created for our 4-legged friends. "The animals came to us for a second chance in life, we don't want to fail them. Please help us carry on...
  2. My name is Rubber. And this is my plea to you. Love your country. I am a Singaporean male. I was neither blessed with a silver spoon nor cursed with a empty life at birth. My parents came from humbler beginning and have taught me everything good parents should impart to their children. I went on to school, made friends, fell in love, fell out love and eventually got married. My parents grew old as time went by and i soon will become a parent myself. Here i am now, reading in utter dismay and with a tinge of disgust on how my fellow singaporeans feel such strong distaste for the government. And so I questioned myself. I sat my wife down and asked "Are you happy living here?" I pleaded for her honesty. She drew close to me and with an impish smile, she whispered "Yes, we are Singaporeans". No doubt we have problems with transportation, rising housing prices, too many FT... But we are blessed with no wars, no riots, low unemployment, low crime rate, low taxes, low food prices etc.. So let me put this question to you, would you rather be born elsewhere? As for me, there is no other country but Singapore. And i have to thank the PAP who has steered Singapore to where she is now. Please spread this to your friends
  3. From ST Forum: http://www.straitstimes.com/STForum/Online...ory_700651.html PR's plea on lift upgrading SINGAPOREANS are lucky to have the Government upgrade their homes by subsidising lift upgrading by up to 95 per cent ('Why lift upgrading cannot be compulsory' by the Housing Board; last Saturday). However, permanent residents (PRs) are not eligible to vote in lift upgrading. Why is this so? PRs pay the full market price for their resale HDB flats and conservancy charges, and do not enjoy service and conservancy rebates. They regard their flats as their homes and contribute to nation building through the taxes they pay. And yet, when HDB asks residents to vote on the lift upgrading for their blocks, PRs are not allowed to vote on the physical work that will affect their homes directly. On top of that, PRs are asked to pay the full unsubsidised price. The increased cost borne by PRs is unlikely to be recouped from a higher resale price, as citizens do not have to pay for it and so can sell their flats at a lower price. A PR owner's only option is to sell his flat before the lift upgrading is completed. Give PRs a voice on changes to their homes. Sin Kuan Cheung
  4. Was travelling along Jalan Besar this morning towards city when a notice at the right side of the rear windscreen of a white Renault Kangoo van GBB 7**4T caught my eye . It stated: If you wish to overtake this van. Don't think!! Go ahead!! Do it carefully. Elderly Driver Any folks saw this van before? Could it be he was traumatised previously or it was a simple plea to excuse him on the roads? Whatever it is, I think we should show some basic road courtesy like signalling early or overtaking at a safe distance to others at all times.
