  1. Part of Clementi park connector closed after landslide SINGAPORE - A section of the park connector in Clementi has been closed after soil spilled into the nearby river on Friday morning. According to the MP for the area Sim Ann, a landslide near Clementi Ave 6 (Clementi NorthArc construction site) in the early hours of the morning caused damage to the Ulu Pandan park connector and soil displacement into Ulu Pandan Canal. The site has now been cordoned off for public safety, she said, and asked residents to stay clear of the area for now. https://www.straitstimes.com/singapore/part-of-clementi-park-connector-closed-after-landslide
  2. Huge Genting Highlands Landslide Blocks Major Road, Affected Route Temporarily Closed source: https://mustsharenews.com/genting-highlands-landslide/ Major Road In Genting Highlands Blocked After Huge Landslide Genting Highlands is a popular tourist destination for many Singaporean families — its fun theme parks and cool weather is a treat for everyone. However, it seems like those planning to head up there soon for a holiday might have to make some changes to their plans. A major landslide has hit Genting Highlands on Tuesday (5 Nov), cutting off part of a major road. This blocked off the route to a nearby hotel and apartment building nearby, reports New Straits Times. “Hundreds of holiday-goers” were left helpless due to the landslide, according to NST. Fortunately, nobody was injured. Rained for 3 hours prior to the Genting Highlands landslide Videos have surfaced online showing streams of mud and rocks flowing down the mountain. It had been raining heavily for about 3 hours prior to the landslide. In the video, a man shouts for the bus to close its doors as it reverses away from the landslide. Both lanes of Jalan Genting-Amber Court were blocked off. While the First World Hotel is in plain sight of the drivers, they are unable to access it due to the landslide. Clean-up operations are ongoing Firefighters were alerted to the landslide at 5.20pm, reports Harian Metro. The station deployed 10 personnel to the affected area. They are now working to clear the mud and debris from the road. Contractors working in the area are also helping the personnel. Harian Metro added that the main road leading to Genting Highlands, however, is unaffected. The situation is under control When contacted by Berita Harian, the district police chief said that the situation is under control. However, the roads are still closed for cleanup works. We’ve reached out to the High Commission of Singapore in Kuala Lumpur for comments and advice for Singaporeans heading to Genting in the coming days. In the meantime, Singaporeans heading to Genting ought to check traffic conditions before heading over. If the weather is bad, it might be better to delay the drive up until the skies clear. We wish everyone a safe trip during the holiday season.
  3. Source: https://mothership.sg/2022/12/k-9-rescue-dog-collapse-genting-highland-landslide/ Rescue workers involved in search operations to locate the buried victims of the Dec. 16 landslide near Genting Highlands were reportedly tired by Sunday after three days of work. But it was not just human personnel who have been pushed to the limits during search, rescue, and salvage efforts in arduous conditions. According to Selangor Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) director Norazam Khamis, an English springer spaniel keeled over from sheer exhaustion after two consecutive days of searching. The dog, named Blake, will be rested as a result. Equipped with a keen sense of smell thousands of times more acute than humans, the rescue dogs were called upon to sniff out leads that can detect those trapped. Photos put up on Facebook showed the extent of the difficult conditions on the ground for rescue and salvage operations. Another Facebook post showed the dogs on site in tough conditions. Need to recuperate The conditions of the affected sites have tested some of the K-9 dogs, pushing them to their limits. The K-9 dog detection unit were activated to work alongside their human handlers to look for people in the thick mud, slush or rain. “After two days of slogging more than the allotted time, they (detection dogs) too badly need to rest and recuperate though they are not injured," Norazam said. “That’s why at this stage, we will rotate them in turn, starting with three (dogs) first, then we will use the rest." Norazam said so far, there are 11 tracking dogs placed on standby at the scene to assist in the search. Six belong to the Fire and Rescue Department of Malaysia, four are from the Royal Malaysian Police, and one hails from the Malaysian Army. “We may ask for an increase if necessary,” he added. Of the 94 people caught in the landslide, 61 have been rescued.
  4. KUANTAN: Part of the main road leading to an educational institution near Genting Highlands collapsed early on Friday morning (Apr 6). A 30-metre-deep sunken surface was discovered by a security guard at Aminuddin Baki Institute at around 1.30am. “Electricity in the area has been temporarily disconnected because power cables in the affected area were affected by the collapse,” said Bentong Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) officer Lieutenant Mohd Zulkhairi Adek, He said no one was injured, adding that the road caved in during normal weather. The Pahang Fire and Rescue Department is investigating if there were burst underground pipes in the area. Meanwhile, the department's deputy director Mohd Sani Harul said the road along the affected stretch has been closed to traffic until further notice.
