  1. Source: https://mustsharenews.com/van-driver-marshal-traffic/ Van Driver Helps Marshal Traffic At Jalan Bukit Merah Road Junction In a world where we sometimes feel increasingly disconnected from each other, a voluntary act of kindness can shine more brightly than ever. When we all constantly have places to be, it is even more admirable when someone sacrifices their own time for the good of others. That was precisely what one van driver did when he volunteered to marshal traffic to aid drivers stuck at a road junction. He stepped up to help out after the traffic lights went out, and earned praise from netizens for guiding oncoming traffic like a pro. Van driver marshals traffic skillfully in the middle of road On 23 Dec (Friday), Facebook user Richard Lau shared the man’s good deed to the Singapore Incidents group. Based on the video, the incident appears to have taken place at the Jalan Bukit Merah road junction. According to Mr Lau, the traffic lights at the road junction had gone out and he was wondering how to cross the road. He then said the van driver came down suddenly, walked into the middle of traffic, and started guiding the vehicles right away. Dressed casually in an orange shirt and slippers, the man appeared unfazed by the busy traffic as he stepped into his role as a temporary traffic marshal. At one point, he put up both hands to halt vehicles coming from one direction while waving forth a car from the opposite direction. Seeing that all the cars were “listening to him”, OP saluted the van driver, calling his traffic marshalling skills “impressive”. Netizens heap praise on van driver for marshalling traffic The van driver’s selflessness and nifty manoeuvring of traffic drew praise from many netizens, including one who said he deserves a medal. Another commenter gave him a “thumbs up” for helping out before authorised personnel came on the scene. Some surmised that the man might have been a traffic police officer while in National Service (NS), judging by his skills. Another user echoed his sentiment by sharing a theory that the van driver may have worked as a traffic police officer before. One netizen commended the van driver’s bravery for putting himself in the middle of traffic, as dangerous as it might have been. An inspiration to step up whenever we can Although the van driver’s traffic marshalling came with some risk, it was undoubtedly a generous act that helped many others get to their destinations safely that day. While it doesn’t mean we should all attempt the exact same thing, it does serve as an inspiration to help others in ways that we know best.
  2. I think many have bad experience with some traffic marshals, my only fear is these are not locals whom do not have the empathy and not there to serve for the public good. No matter what nationality when given the task and authority they should act with justice and equality. Case in point....... Along upper serangoon road, a stretch of eateries with Maybank along the stretch of shop house....think some may know. Cisco's is almost always there 24/7....... Near the Alison porridge there are some parking slots along the road. One Cisco marshal standing there when I arrived, put on my signals and wait for a parking lot. All the time the officer stand there with his "cool" shades doing nothing. One week later send me a love letter for obstructing traffic, with 4 demerit points and $150 fine. Pissed off.... I wrote to TP that the officer being a representative of the traffic police force is to serve the public. The officer in question do not sees himself in the uniform of authority to serve but instead abuses his power. While we peasants are suppose to fear them like GODS. Am quite sure anyone here in this forum that if any of these Cisco officer come over and asked you to move your car; all of us including myself will gladly do so. TP acknowledge my letter and kind to waive off my summons but not without a warning which I appreciate. Some may say that I have caused traffic obstruction and should be punished, that I do not argue and I admit is my mistake. My problem is Cisco officers being the representative of the law and order should act in good faith with the mentality to serve the public. Thus my conclusion is most of these Cisco are not locals and they do not care about the locals. I hope Singapore will not come to a position where we have to out source the whole police unit to 3th parties and there will be no more integrity in the uniform anymore.
  3. THE Land Transport Authority on Friday said traffic marshals will ply all expressways in Singapore from July 1 to keep them smooth-flowing and help clear road incidents speedily. These marshals first came to the scene last October and were deployed to clear traffic holdups on the Kallang-Paya Lebar Expressway (KPE), Central Expressway (CTE) and Fort Canning Tunnel. They have since been zipping around in their Piaggio scooters or Subara Imprezas, helping to clear incidents, such as breakdowns and accidents, that impede traffic flow. Singapore has about 160km of expressways. Each week, there are 250 to 300 incidents on these heavily used roads. With these marshals, the LTA expects to clear 75 per cent of expressway incidents within 12 minutes of arriving at the scene. They will complement existing expressway management systems like the Expressway Monitoring and Advisory System (Emas) and towing services to bring traffic flow back to normal as fast as possible. These Auxiliary Police Officers are empowered to perform traffic control duties as well as preserve evidence at accident scenes. The officers are also trained in first aid, and are authorised to take down the particulars of errant motorists and pass them on to the Traffic Police. Linked to Certis Cisco's satellite-tracking system, these officers will be deployed once expressway cameras spot an incident. They are expected to arrive at the scene within eight to 15 minutes. This operation will be extended to KPE Phase 2 when it opens to traffic on Sept 20. "The initiative is part of LTA's continual efforts to optimise the road network and ensure smooth traffic flow. LTA will continue to work with the Traffic Police to manage incidents that affect the traffic," said LTA.
