Hi guys any story/experience to share driving in other asian countries/cities other than MALAYSIA? Let me share mine first, since I am relatively young, I have driven in Thailand and Indonesia before, driven car friend in bkk for half day only but was unlucky as traffic really jam. Drive around the sathorn area as well as sukhumvit area 3-4 years back in his CRV. Really pain in @ss driving in bkk as had to wait long in traffic light. Then in indonesia i have driven before in Surabaya, Bali and. Batam before through car rental. In Bali it was challenging as roads very narrow and gps somehow brought me to small road for one car only for shortcut BUT that road is for 2 ways. So when there is oncoming car, I had to keep the most left, ask my gf to check out left side of the car and then i fold the mirror, think left and right less than 15cm! Then also managed to drove to kintamani mountain for 3-4 hours drive from the denpasar city. Its tiring but fun Then in Surabaya, i rented an Innova and went to Taman Safari Prigen about 1 hr drive from the city. The fun part is that the safari is like jurassic park, lions and other animals is at ur car window as we drive in to see those animals using our own cars. Unforgettable experience indeed. Think if u watch one of the Running Man episode in Indonesia, its exactly the same. U can feed some herbivores food by opening ur window slightly. Its fun! Last but not least in Batam, rented a car drive to barelang bridges. Not much experience but fun part is when u cross the first bridge. Then i think in 4th or 5th island drive through viets village. Thats all about my Asia Driving experience

Trollstigen, is a serpentine mountain road in Norway - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trollstigen We stopped at the port of Alesund, Norway, while on a cruise. That day was a long cruise stop day, so there was time for us to rent a car, which we did in advance. Originally we were supposed to get a Toyota Prius equivalent. We were given a complimentary upgrade to a BMW 520d Touring model, so good for me. Driving to the Troll Road and back was fun. The hairpin turns look scary, but they were not difficult at all. In fact, I think it is more challenging to drive up to Genting. Nevertheless, the experience was fun. Here is a video I made of the adventure to Trollstigen. Driving down the hairpin turns start at the 8:32 mark. Some more information on the blog post, for all those interested. http://guitar123foodandtravel.blogspot.sg/2014/07/adventure-of-seas-day-9-alesund-part-1.html The BMW 520d Outside a Shell station. The hairpin turns, from the lookout. Not that hard, just drive slowly.

If one day you were wealthy enough, would you prefer to drive yourself around or be chauffeured around on your daily commutes to and fro wherever the rich folks hang out? Would you choose to brave the jams yourself or leave it to a driver while you recline in the comfort of whatever luxury mobile you picked? I suspect that most readers will say chauffeur for the daily monotonous commutes in the luxury mobile but self-drive for weekends and nights in the supercar. But let's say (somewhat artificially) that you could only pick one of the two. Which would you prioritize? The answer is clear in my head, at least. For a petrolhead (wannabe?), nothing beats driving it myself. Whatever it may be; whether it is a Roller or a humble Toyota. I want to drive them all. Myself. And my reason is simple. Step into a moving automobile and I become somewhat of a control freak. While riding along as a passenger, I have to constantly remind myself that if I still cherished being able to ride on public buses or taxis or even still wanted to have friends that I ought not to open my mouth and morph into a backseat driver. The result is that being driven about, in anyway, is not a pleasant experience for me (and sometimes my driver). And when I add in the fact that I actually enjoy the experience of driving and would drive for the sake of driving as opposed to going places, it is a no-brainer. At this point you are probably thinking that this is all a hypothetical exercise in time wasting. But this is actually a decision that many Singaporeans are confronted with (on a reasonably frequent basis). Every time we step out of our sunny shores into foreign nations, this is actually a crucial decision we make. Do we rely on a local driver or do we fire up the gps and rent a car? Or do we rely on their public transport? What would be your default choice?
