  1. In an unprecedented move, Toyota agent Borneo Motors is opening its workshops to parallel imports, bucking a long-standing practice among authorised agents to shun cars not sold by them. For a registration fee of $550, which can be used to offset servicing cost, owners of parallel-imported Toyotas can make use of two Borneo aftersales facilities in the west. https://www.straitstimes.com/lifestyle/motoring/toyota-agent-reaches-out-to-parallel-import-buyers Will other ADs do the same?
  2. Q1: What is the condition? A1: There is a possibility that certain accelerator pedal mechanisms may, in rare instances, mechanically stick in a partially depressed position or return slowly to the idle position. Q2: What is the cause? A2: As a result of wear combined with certain operating and environmental conditions, friction in the mechanism may increase and intermittently result in the accelerator pedal being hard to depress, slow to return or, in the worst case, stick in a partially open position. Q3: Which and how many vehicles are involved? A3: No vehicle sold by Borneo Motors (S) Pte Ltd is affected by this recall exercise. Q4: What is the solution that Toyota announced to fix sticking accelerator pedals? A4: Toyota's engineers have developed and rigorously tested a solution that is both effective and simple. A precision-cut steel reinforcement bar will be installed into the accelerator pedal assembly, thereby eliminating the excess friction that has caused pedals to stick in rare instances. 3. Will we be seeing China made Toyotas in the next 5-10 yrs? http://www.faw.com/international/toyota.jsp
  4. The modern day Toyotas are fitting tributes to the Chinese proverb "一分钱,一分货". Translated, it means "you get for what you pay". In the following pictures, you will be able to see the weld qualities on the following Toyota models sold in Europe: 1. Corolla (made in Europe) 2. RAV4 3. Avensis (the Camry equivalent which is made in Europe) 4. Lexus RX400h
  5. OWNERS of more than 4,200 Toyotas here will soon be asked to send their cars to distributor Borneo Motors to fix a flaw that could cause the vehicles to stall. The recall affects mainly the Corolla - Singapore's best- selling car - and comes just weeks after another Toyota recall that affected about 5,000 parallel-imported models. The latest exercise involves cars made in 2001. Besides the Corolla, the Echo and Prius hybrid are also affected. The fault, which affects a small but undetermined number of parallel-imported cars, lies with a sensor in the engine. This is similar to a flaw that triggered a massive recall of nearly 33,000 Nissans here in 2003. Borneo Motors said it will contact owners. It said the faulty sensors will be replaced and expects each replacement to take around two hours. As with all recalls, the manufacturer will bear the costs. While the recalls may be seen as chipping away at Toyota's strong reputation for quality, one observer said the manufacturer may be 'over-cautious'. Last week, Toyota recalled some SUVs in America because of faulty clips that could cause the cars' carpeting to move out of position. In Singapore, the number of vehicle recalls tallied by the Land Transport Authority for the first five months does not show Toyota having more recalls than other makes. Out of 23 reported campaigns, three were by Toyota. Nissan and Isuzu had the same number, while Volvo and Citroen each had two. But because of its bestseller's position, Toyota's recalls affected 5,099 vehicles in the first five months, compared with 1,337 Nissans and 274 Isuzus. The spate of recalls has yet to dent Toyota's appeal, going by the response to its new Camry. Borneo Motors managing director Mark Choong said that it has collected 'hundreds' of bookings for the big sedan ahead of its arrival next month. The car starts at $86,988 with certificate of entitlement. ------------------- From July 20th's Straits Times.
  6. All, This is what I have discovered. All toyota AUTO cars made from 2001 onwards are recommended to use ATF Type T-IV Fluid for the AutoTranny. For Lexus, it is a must. Look into your handbook, it states. Yesterday, I called my insider in BM, they told me for Corolla and below, they still use DexIII but for Camry and above, the use the Lexus "Oil" - which I guess is the ATF T-IV. Not many mechanic is aware of this including mine in Team Motoring. As for the question of damaged, it is not proven yet if you use DexIII on these car. This morning, got my friend to check with Japan Toyota, it is a standard specification in Japan to use type T-IV. Why BM uses DEXIII, probably cut cost... My 2 cents of sharing.. Currently, I know MItsubitsu cars also have the same factors. So, where to get ATF T-IV fluid... ? AutoFix has it and I think AutoBacs sells as well. regards,
