I have downloaded AppRadioLive onto my phone but when I start this app, it just shows a black screen with the words "AppRadioLIVE" and "Welcome ....". And a Logout button.

 

And if I leave the app and start Waze, Waze does not show up on the HU.

 

Is the HU supposed to be able to show youtube video? I only received audio like you.

I dwnload both Appradio n appRadio Live. go to menu to select the connected HP icon, from there u can see yr hp apps like photos, waze etc. press waze n it should appear. Which HU set u using?

I am using z5050 just like you. But when CarPlay starts, I do not see Waze.

 

When you say "go to menu to select the connected HP icon", you referring to which menu?

If your 8850BT has USB2 port connected to a USB cable then there is some luck !

I just managed to spend some hours searching for the correct APK to run on my Samsung S5 and Oppo F1S and manage to get my Android Auto to work on my 8850BT.

The feeling is totally satisfaction and achievement LOL.

 

Here is the APK you need, should you happen to have the same phone, or similar spec'ed phone.

Hi Bro,

 

Think most of us don't have issues with Android Auto. Sorry if u have posted your issue on Android Auto and I missed it. I've been on Android Auto since day 1 with the USB connection apk installed.

 

The issue some have is unable to display when connected via AppRadio cos it needs the HDMI connection. For the latest HU releases, I'm reading AppRadio no longer need HDMI connection. Just the USB will work, similar to Android Auto.

 

As to why some here wants to use AppRadio and not Android Auto, I have no idea. Android Auto works with both google map & waze for me.

I'm using iPhone 6, and is interested in upgrading to either 8850 or 5050.

 

Important things I need:

1) Nagivation on my HU with Google map and Waze (not Apple map!), and control by touching the HU, not touching my iPhone.

2) Control my iPhone's Spotify from HU

3) Integrate with my existing Steering Wheel control button (Honda Jazz original steering wheel/button)

 

Can the above HU models achieve that?

 

Read on the thread that there are a few bros facing issues with using Iphone on hear models :(

Positive for 5050 is that it has a higher definition screen. Can’t comment more

Yes works well for me.

 

With the AV Adaptor hook up, just put the set into HDMI mode. Everything gets mirrored, including YouTube, twitch, iPhone stock video player etc. However control is from the

Phone, can't control anything on the 8850 LCD.

yes, burn onto CD and play from CD.

 

or can try streaming mp3 from ur phone via BT.

8850 has dedicated mute button.

5050 does not have dedicated mute button. You need to press the volume increase/decrease button first and the mute button will show up on screen. That means if you want to map one of your steering wheel buttons to the mute button, may not work for the 5050. Will find out tomorrow when I go to the audio shop to install the steering wheel buttons.

 

2) graphics

5050 better graphics than 8850.

 

3) CarPlay & Android Auto

5050 has native support for both CarPlay & Android Auto - plug and play. 8850 only has native support for CarPlay. For Android Auto, need to do some additional work to get it to work.

Installed the buttons on the steering wheel today - able to map one of the buttons to the MUTE function for z5050.

 

This same button can also be mapped to SIRI.

If you are using 8850, it has 2 USB ports. One for phone (depending on Android Auto or Apple Carplay) and the other can be used to play mp3 songs from thumb drive. I do it all the time.

As far as I know, Apple CarPlay does not support Waze. Apple blocks it.

 

Android Auto does and the Waze control is on my 8850 and not on phone.
