The current generation Toyota RAV4 has been around since late 2005 and many felt that it is about time Toyota releases a new model for it.

In recent months, several images of the supposedly new RAV4 were leaked onto the internet. Toyota denied and refused to comment about the leaked images but it seems that the leaked images resembled very much like the real thing which was unveiled at the recent LA Auto Show.

The fourth generation Toyota RAV4 made its world debut at the 2012 Los Angeles Auto Show and the car will be made available by early next year. The new model will come in a variety of powertrains that will aid in engaging a true driving experience.

One of the engines made available is a 2.5-litre four cylinder unit which produces 176bhp and 233Nm of torque. The V6 engine option previously offered will be discontinued.

The standard four speed automatic transmission will be replaced with a six speed automatic transmission with sequential shift. The first and second gear ratios are optimised for urban driving. In order to keep engine revs lower at highway speeds and also enhance fuel usage, the fifth and sixth gears will be overdrives.

The new RAV4 comes equipped with new technologies such as Sport Mode. These are enhancements made to suspension performance and the optimisation of the electric power steering. The spring rates and shock absorbers have been tuned to aid the vehicle's handling characteristics.

The driver selectable Sport Mode also sharpens the transmission shift timing and action and also the throttle response. The electric power steering assist gives a firmer feel and better response to input.

All new RAV4 comes with eight standard airbags and equipped with Toyota's various safety systems such as traction control, anti-lock braking system, enhanced vehicle stability control and smart stop technology.

  • Space: Large and Empty

Over the weekend I fell into a bit of a science-fiction/science rabbithole. You know, one of those when you click on ONE Youtube video and suddenly the whole Sunday afternoon is gone and your algorithm is all messed up.  Anyway, obviously there's tons of fascinating stuff about space and science and all that. Too much, really.  But one fun fact has stuck in my brain: All the other planets in the Solar System could fit between Earth and our Moon.  It seems crazy to think, consideri

    Singapore’s ultimate NDP song?

As my JC classmates suddenly made plans this year to have an NDP watch-party (this is likely our first in the 12 years we’ve known each other), I found myself falling into a state of nostalgia again: This time, thinking about how NDP songs have evolved over the years. It’s not a stretch to say that each NDP song - from the inception of the idea of an NDP song back in 1984 - has woven itself somewhat into the fabric of our collective memories. Whether you were singing along loudly in primary

    More aliens on Earth?

"Scientists Just Discovered a Creature That Breaks the Rules of Life". I mean, that's quite the headline.  Sukunaarchaeum mirabile is also quite the name to pronounce. But yes, that's the name of a recently discovered organism that apparently challenges the traditional scientific definition of 'life'.  There's a fair bit of scientific jargon to sieve through, but the quick summary is this: Cells are considered "alive" because of their ability to self-replicate and reproduce, whereas vi
