Lets talk about those LED daytime running lights that you see on most Continental cars nowadays. A daytime running light is an automotive lighting/safety device on the front of a vehicle, installed in pairs, automatically on when the vehicle is moving forward, emitting white, yellow, or amber light to increase the visibility of the vehicle during daylight conditions. These were most noticeable on the latest Audi's, followed by Mercedes, Porsche and even BMW. All utilizing LED lights. However, they seem to be implemented in a way that suggests appearance takes precedence over safety. Yes. It does look good on that Audi A5, where it looks like jewelery and now an add on accessory favorite to almost any car you see out there in the market. Vios's, City's, Civic's, Verna's, Nano's, Forte's etc. The list is endless.

So now since the LED daytime running lights work so well for cars, it should work well on people too. And that is what South Korean multimedia and graphic artist Soomi Park believes too. She has created the LED Eyelash for women, which according to her is an alternative way to make eyes look prettier or larger. This is especially important for most Asian women and the LED Eyelashes make this dream for big eyes and bling come true.

This, slightly over the top 'facial make up' has a sensor that perceives the movement of the pupils in the eyes and also the eyelids. If you are wearing it and move your head, the LED Eyelash will flicker. According to its creator, it is as easy to use as false eyelashes and it is like a piece of jewelery in someone's collection.

The LED Eyelash won Soomi honorary mention under the section of Interactive Art at PRIX Ars Electronica 2008. The juries said, "Soomi Park's LED Eyelash is in a category of its own-glittering, yet profound, clumsy yet extraordinarily beautiful and strange, and dealing with important issues of gender and identity with a disarming and charming sense of playfulness." How quaint. The thing is, this proves that those LED lights on that Audi/Porsche/Mercedes/etc you see outside are just 'bling', and not something that is there to warn everyone that an Audi/Porsche/Mercedes/etc is coming and you should either get out of the way or be run over.

However, this may help LED Eyelashes users navigate safely through the pedestrian underpass while trying to catch the next train at the nearest MRT Station. People would most probably move aside when they see the person wearing them.

  • Space: Large and Empty

Over the weekend I fell into a bit of a science-fiction/science rabbithole. You know, one of those when you click on ONE Youtube video and suddenly the whole Sunday afternoon is gone and your algorithm is all messed up.  Anyway, obviously there's tons of fascinating stuff about space and science and all that. Too much, really.  But one fun fact has stuck in my brain: All the other planets in the Solar System could fit between Earth and our Moon.  It seems crazy to think, consideri

Doing the thing, minus the thing

You might have seen this viral clip on social media:  m2-res_480p.mp4 This might be one of the greatest, funniest things I've seen in quite a long while.  Put simply, its horse-racing, minus the horses.  And look, of course it's all a bit of fun (clearly a stunt to gain social media attention, but it also raised money for charity). I think it might be best described as 'doing the thing, minus the thing'. And we've seen plenty of gimmicky conceits (I for one am quite a sucker

    More aliens on Earth?

"Scientists Just Discovered a Creature That Breaks the Rules of Life". I mean, that's quite the headline.  Sukunaarchaeum mirabile is also quite the name to pronounce. But yes, that's the name of a recently discovered organism that apparently challenges the traditional scientific definition of 'life'.  There's a fair bit of scientific jargon to sieve through, but the quick summary is this: Cells are considered "alive" because of their ability to self-replicate and reproduce, whereas vi
