Nf0rc3r 1st Gear December 27, 2010 Share December 27, 2010 I using 255w. Exactly the same as 1350 except 1350 is slimmer and has EcoRoute. EZ to use. Screen juz big enough to see not big enough to block. VERY VERY user frenly. Ez to update maps etc. Regreted I din buy 1350 cos 1350 can name the maps anything u wan. Like australia.xxx etc. 255w has a structured map naming system that only allows 3 maps on the Internal memory and another 2 on the memory card. U can store more but u wan it to show up on the GPS u have to rename to the correct one. IMHO 1350 is a very good buy now @ 239. But GPS depreciate very fast. One year ago it was 329. And i bought 255w @ 279. nOw 255w phased out and 1350 is even cheaper. ↡ Advertisement
Redstorm 1st Gear December 27, 2010 Share December 27, 2010 (edited) I don't know which model of garmin I use on my rented colt when in uk, it's good, but I still much prefer Tom Tom ( more user friendly, n it plots the overall route on the country map, can also select prefer road n roads, or toll areas to avoid. It even warn u when a speed cam is approaching). But I heard Tom Tom do not have much local support, such a pity. The garmin I used do not seems to have these features. Does thus model of garmin have these features? Tom Tom have very limited support as far as map is concerned. That's why they are popular only on both sides of the Atlantic. Garmin do have so features that you mentioned i.e. toll avoidance, avoid ERP (for 3790 only) and select preferred roads. Selecting preferred roads in Garmin is known as Custom Route which allows you to travel by the roads you prefer using "via" points and this feature is available in higher end models only. Patrickmaniac Neutral Newbie December 27, 2010 Author Share December 27, 2010 Wow thanks for all the feedback. Seems like 1350 is a good buy for now. Also interesting to see the Marbella gps thread being just next to this thread. But seems like there are issues with the support. Anyone else have used both or others for comparison? Anyway, I don't use navigation much in Sunny Singapore. Maybe it will be good for Malaysia trip, a place I have near zero interest in.
Saycheese78 Clutched December 27, 2010 Share December 27, 2010 I use 1350 but also use my brain. Accuracy: Only 1 miss after 1 year of use. There were some baby fair at expo and I search for Orange Julius Expo. Brought me to a private housing in Joo Chiat. Guess what? There was another car who also seem to get lost. Shortest route: Not always give u best route. So if can give 3 routes will be better. Junction View quite cool.
Noel Clutched December 29, 2010 Share December 29, 2010 (edited) Care to share best place to get & price for the 3790? Cheers! I bought the item from Challenger at around 500 SGD. Since i was a member, there was a discount for it. On top of that, at that point of time was SITEX exhibition and Challenger was trying to match the prices. They threw in free goodies for me such as full kit box set and the GTM35 traffic update. Worth the buy, i must say and i love this product from Garmin! Simply amazing. My best GPS user experience in comparison with the others. Certainly; i would not let go of it unless they came with a better one! See pic below. Cheers! Sgnick 1st Gear December 29, 2010 Share December 29, 2010 (edited) I am using 1350 now. Used to use 300. Scrolling the map using the touch screen, the old Nuvi is faster. Details on map also old Nuvi more. Old nuvi much more user friendly interface. 1350 Sometimes hang for few seconds when I scroll or click a button. 1350 gets hot easily, and pls do a search on internet for long usage (3hr) of 1350, when get too hot will auto shutdown and cannot start up until cooled. 1350 have Junction view, lane assist, better navigation details than my 300. I wish i can combine the best features of 1350 and 300. Changing from 300 to 1350 is like 2 steps forward but 1 step back, sianz Edited December 29, 2010 by Sgnick

May I know will it be safe to purchase the GPS from there? Anyone tried before? Also, if this is purchase from Amazon, I doubt that our Singapore Map will be preloaded inside. Lastly, what if when we have received and found out the GPS can't work, defective? Thx Edited December 29, 2010 by Axela72
Drafting88 3rd Gear December 29, 2010 Share December 29, 2010 I bought my Garmin Nuvi 650 from Amazon. That was more than 3 years ago. I got it shipped either by Vpost or Borderlinx; could not remember. There was no problems in shipping with the US Customs even though the device come with the preinstalled battery. The Singapore map was sourced from malsingmaps.com. You can also visit mafreemaps.com for it. The Nuvi has served me well up to date and has not given any hardware problems. Can't help about the warranty question though.

Chucky2007 Turbocharged December 30, 2010 Share December 30, 2010 i am currently using garmin 1250, bought in 2009. Prior to this was using Holux receiver bluetooth to my old PDA (holux receiver purchased in 2008 or 2007). Comparing both Garmin & Holux, i would say Garmin is slower in start up, slower in recalculation, and it hangs quite frequently (maybe for about 1 minute plus or so). a 2009 tech that supposed to be newer at that time, is nothing compares to a old 2007/2008 tech. Other than garmin having more maps, i think garmin really not much better. I do not drive when going to other countries, so having many country maps also no use. I only know that in my next upgrade of GPS, i will be looking out at either Mabella or Holux.. bye bye garmin.. ↡ Advertisement
