The Opel Insignia is entering the 2012 model year with some modest upgrades that include the broader availability of the 1.4-litre and 2.0-litre turbocharged gasoline engines in more markets across Europe. The 1.4-litre Turbo petrol will replace the naturally aspirated 1.8-litre unit with the same output while a 250 bhp 2.0L turbo gasoline engine will find its way into the bonnet of the 4 wheel drive model.

The 1.4-litre Turbo ecoFLEX offers the Insignia a century sprint time of 10.9 seconds with a top speed of 205km/h while returning a combined fuel efficiency of 5.9L/100km and CO2 emissions of 134g/km. The 250 bhp 2.0-litre turbo accelerates the Insignia 4x4 from zero to 100km/h in 7.5 seconds and on to an electronically limited top speed of 250 km/h. It consumes 8.9L/100 km on average with CO2 emissions of 209g/km.

For the new model year, Opel will also enhance the 220 bhp 2.0-litre Turbo Insignia with a start/stop system, aerodynamic underbody paneling and rolling-resistance-optimized tires. All these improvements will help reduce fuel consumption by 0.5 to 7.6 liters per 100km and CO2 emissions from 189g/km to 179g/km.

Throughout the range, the revised Insignia benefits from the new Navi 600 and Navi 900 Europa infotainment systems featuring SD cards and a revised front camera that adds a

Sat in the car once. Very nice build and the interior has excellent ergonomics. But the price tag and the rumour of FC stopped me in my tracks to even go for a test drive.

  • Manchester United's "promising" transfer window should be taken with a pinch of salt

Having followed this club for more than 20 years, I'm well aware that a promising transfer window does not directly equate to an improved season. Forwards Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo, as well as Diego Leon, the young Paraguayan wing-back, have been Manchester United's signings for the 2025 summer transfer window so far. On paper, this team should have no problem challenging for silverware. On the pitch, the current crop of players finished 15th last season. While both Cunha and Mbeumo ha

Journey to the West: First Steps in Southwestern China, Pt. 3

Note: This is the third instalment of a series covering my trip to southwestern China. Read Pt. 1 and Pt. 2 here. CHENGDU Day 7: We savoured one last morning view of the Chongqing skyline from our rooms before heading to Shapingba Railway Station for our ride to Chengdu. Because we had quite a bit of luggage, we split into pairs upon our arrival and took different taxis to our accommodation. When Mum and I got there, my brother was waiting alone. Apparently, upon reachi

    More aliens on Earth?

"Scientists Just Discovered a Creature That Breaks the Rules of Life". I mean, that's quite the headline.  Sukunaarchaeum mirabile is also quite the name to pronounce. But yes, that's the name of a recently discovered organism that apparently challenges the traditional scientific definition of 'life'.  There's a fair bit of scientific jargon to sieve through, but the quick summary is this: Cells are considered "alive" because of their ability to self-replicate and reproduce, whereas vi
