https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RZWEBAHREa8The Nurburgring is no stranger to crashes, but every once in a while the Green Hell takes a particularly rare and special car. One of Koenigsegg's 1,341-horsepower Koenigsegg One:1 hypercars made the big sacrifice.

 

According to Koenigsegg, the crash happened during Industry Pool track testing. The company was working on vehicle development and preparing for a possible record run at the famous track. Fortunately, the driver was fine. Koenigsegg said he was taken to a hospital and released the same afternoon.

 

No further details of the crash was given. The company only said that it tries to be as safe as possible, but track-testing high-performance cars is always risky. A photographer for MotorAuthority said the One:1 came too fast into the corner and couldn't slow down enough to avoid crashing into the barrier. In the video above, you can see the telltale tire tracks leading up to the crash site.

 

MotorAuthority also reports that Koenigsegg plans to rebuild the wrecked One:1. We would certainly be happy to see it resurrected since there were only seven total (6 production and 1 prototype) built, and it would be a shame to lose any of them forever.

What exactly this car company contribute to the motoring world apart from satisfying the needs of the few but just how many suffer from their out of proportion pollution during testing and real live driving.

I strongly disagree and I am frankly rather dismayed to see such a comment on My *Car* Forum, of all places.

 

Unless you're driving an electric car, or at least a hybrid, you are in no position to be passing judgement on "pollution".

 

If it's a daily driven mass market petrol car, it's a safe bet that your one car will likely contribute far more to pollution over its total life on the road (from build to scrap) than all the Koenigsegg One:1s ever made will in theirs. There're just too few of them, and they're not likely to be driven much at all.

 

Arguments about relative practicality of B&B cars vs exotics don't impress me because you could go public or pedal-bike if you cared so much about pollution. At the end of the day, an internal combustion engine-driven car is still a conveyance for one or very few people that pollutes out of proportion to its purpose.

 

Hyper-exotics (the K one:1 falls squarely into this category) are to cars what Everest is to climbing junkies. You do it "because it's there" to be done. There are too few of them to get all bent out of shape about the pollution they putatively cause.

I believe there is a point to be made. Just because Singapore contributions on 0.2% of carbon emissions to world, that does not mean we should not try which we are.

 

The world is changing in every sense of the word. It is our responsibility to preserve as much of it for our future generation as the past generation has tried doing for us.

 

In this world do we really need to have Vertu phones, outer space tourism by Virgin Galactica and including K 1.

 

Those mass production vehicles, in most cases serves useful purposes primarily transportation when public transportation cannot meet their needs.

 

The likes of K 1, if they are the best of what they are doing then that is a different story.

 

The world today is producing far more than we need. The uneven distribution leads to suffering.

 

Overtime we continued to be reminded of our limited resources.

 

It is good to agree to disagree.
