Koenigsegg Gemera Coupe Four seats. Eight cup holders. 1,700 horsepower. The Koenigsegg Gemera is a new class of car the company has dubbed a "Mega-GT", merging supercar specs with luxury sedan comfort. All four seats can be accessed easily via the giant wing doors, and inside riders are treated to wireless phone chargers, on-board WiFi, an 11-speaker sound system, and central infotainment displays front and rear. Power is supplied via 2.0L, twin-turbo three-cylinder engine producing 600hp and a trio of electric motors — one on each rear wheel with another on the crankshaft — outputting 1,100 hp. A sprint from 0-62 mph takes just 1.9 seconds, with the top speed of 248 approaching in record-matching time; the car also offers a pure EV range of over 31 miles, with a top speed of 186 mph. Production will be limited to 300 examples with pricing and release details TBD.

Private bus becomes a Koenigsegg after dropping its gearbox while driving

This is a Koenigsegg Regera. I would do unspeakable things to own one of these. One of the things that make the Regera astonishing, beyond its price, 1500 horsepower twin-turbo V8 with 3 electric motors or the simple fact it’s a Koenigsegg, is the fact it has no gearbox. Koenigsegg have opted to throw out conventional power delivery systems and make a new one instead, calling it Koenigsegg Direct Drive (DDT). I am not smart enough to understand or explain how it works but it saves weight and prevents energy wastage during acceleration using the electric motors. This bus thought it was capable of being one of these dream machines, but crippled itself instead. What happened? A camcar on Redhill Close, 12 April, saw a peculiar sight where a private bus was on the road, and left its gearbox behind with it. The bus was of course stranded with no way to move, and forced traffic to weave around it. It is unknown what caused this failure, as well as if anyone is hurt or how long it took to get the bus off the road. There doesn't seem to be an accident as the bus's exterior looks untouched but there's plenty of metal bits covering the road as well. Online chatter The jokes were of course on the gearbox, but it varied on whether it was meant to be a birth or a dump. <Why Koenigsegg Never Went Racing, And Why It Doesn't Plan to Start Christian von Koenigsegg explains why his cars have never competed at Le Mans, and why he doesn't intend to participate in the new Hypercar class. KOENIGSEGG Despite building some of the most innovative supercars on earth, Koenigsegg does not currently have a racing team. That's not for lack of trying: Founder Christian von Koenigsegg actually built a viable race car with intent to compete at the 24 Hours of Le Mans when his company was in its infancy. But it never happened, and during a lengthy conversation with the man behind the Swedish performance car company, we learned more about why his Le Mans ambitions fell apart—and whether he hopes to try again. In 2007, Koenigsegg built a fully-functional race car that exactly followed the FIA's Group GT1 rules. The race car, called CCGT, bore a strong resemblance to Koenigsegg's second production model, the CCR. But its roots went back even further, to the very first prototype Koenigsegg built, called CC. As explained on a Koenigsegg company blog post, the original CC, and the race car it spawned, was designed to fit exactly into GT1's dimension requirements: The car could be two meters wide at the maximum, and the cockpit had to span 70 percent of the vehicle's overall width. It had a dry weight of 2200 pounds (significantly below the minimum weight for GT1, which would mean adding ballast to reach the required weight) and was powered by a naturally aspirated V-8 making well over 600 horsepower. But two months after the CCGT's first shakedown runs, the ACO and FIA had a change of heart. The governing bodies banned carbon-fiber monocoque construction, which was used in every Koenigsegg road car and thus formed the basis of the CCGT. The regulators also raised the minimum production requirement dramatically. Previously, an automaker was required to construct 20 street-legal examples of a model, in total, to be eligible to race. After the 2007 change, that number rose to 350 cars per year, impossible for a tiny automaker like Koenigsegg to achieve. The CCGT was ruled out of the class before it ever competed in a single race. The only Koenigsegg CCGT ever built. | KOENIGSEGG "We were aiming to go racing in the GT1 series, which was perfect for our type of cars—road-going hypercars turned race cars" von Koenigsegg told Road & Track during a recent, lengthy conversation. "Then they shut it down right when we were about to go racing, which was very annoying. Since then, there hasn't been any series for these types of cars." The rule change left von Koenigsegg without a place to take his supercars racing. "Even if we would be allowed to go to the highest level of GT racing, we would be competing against Porsche 911s and Ferrari 488s"—sports cars built to vastly different performance goals than Koenigsegg's cars, which commanded well over half a million dollars each. Even if von Koenigsegg had wanted to compete in such a class, he worried that his cars would be "completely downgraded through Balance of Performance via restrictors, because we are not supposed to be any faster. And then it would be just a super-expensive racing car, which would cost more to repair than a 911, and we might even get beaten by a 911 because of BoP, while in reality, they are completely different vehicles. That doesn't make any sense." So Koenigsegg's racing dreams died in 2007, before they could ever become real. But what about today? The WEC's new Hypercar class debuted this year, and it was seemingly built for exactly the kind of extreme vehicles that Koenigsegg builds. But the man behind the Swedish supercar company is unconvinced. "Of course, they started this Hypercar series at Le Mans, but in the end it turned out to be some kind of LMP car again, so it's just a new name for the same kind of thing, more or less." Does von Koenigsegg see a racing future for his cars? Not under the current rules. "The alternative, I guess, is to build some kind of a Le Mans Prototype, which has no relation to our road cars, which I don't find too appealing. I would like to go back to the GT1 type of class, where we [could] see Bugattis, Paganis, Koenigseggs—modified road cars featuring completely different technologies. Not this silhouette racing where you have the same chassis under different bodies. Granted, it would be a very expensive series, given the price of these cars, but then we could build up on what we have. Everyone could showcase something you could actually buy, if you're extremely wealthy. That's what we would like, but I'm not sure if it could ever happen.">

Being a small company with limited resources, Koenigsegg still has to crash their ultra expensive cars like any other brands too. So how do they make sure their cars meet the safety regulations set by various countries? Unlike most large manufacturers which need to crash at least 16 cars and lose around S$540,000 to get the crash tests done, Koenigsegg can't afford to do the same as crashing the same amount of cars would equate to a lost of more than S$40 million. In fact, 16 cars is around the same amount of cars they can produce in a year. So how do they make sure their cars are safe for road use? Watch the video below for the answer!

Koenigsegg Agera One:1 World’s Fastest Supercar Secrets Revealed [Video] Koenigsegg Agera One:1 is the latest hypercar that is coming from the stable of one of the world’s best supercar makers. It develops 1340 (1360 PS) Bhp of power and will be built in a limited units totalling 6 and all of them are sold already! This is remarkable considering the fact that the Agera One:1 will come with a fully functional air conditioning, stereo music system, central locking, ESP, ABS, Power windows and yet they have found a way to make it lighter and faster. The Agera One:1 will have a Le-Mans inspired active wing that will produce downforce of over 600 kgs. It will have larger air vents for cooling, active undertrim air management systems, a roof mounted air scoop, exhaust system built out of titanium, a triplex suspension system that now brings carbon bevel springs with active shock absorbers for ride height adjustment. The engine will be a 5.0 litre V8 from the Agera R supercar but it is modified to produce a lot more power. Of the 6 units that will be produced, 4 will go to China and 2 will be sent to the 2 British customers. The R&D unit will remain at the Koenigsegg factory as the only unit that will not be sold. wow impressive one kg one hp! 0-400 in 20 seconds more impressive the china bought 4 out of 6 world production!

One of Koenigsegg's 1,341-horsepower Koenigsegg One:1 hypercars made the big sacrifice. According to Koenigsegg, the crash happened during Industry Pool track testing. The company was working on vehicle development and preparing for a possible record run at the famous track. Fortunately, the driver was fine. Koenigsegg said he was taken to a hospital and released the same afternoon. No further details of the crash was given. The company only said that it tries to be as safe as possible, but track-testing high-performance cars is always risky. A photographer for MotorAuthority said the One:1 came too fast into the corner and couldn't slow down enough to avoid crashing into the barrier. In the video above, you can see the telltale tire tracks leading up to the crash site. MotorAuthority also reports that Koenigsegg plans to rebuild the wrecked One:1. We would certainly be happy to see it resurrected since there were only seven total (6 production and 1 prototype) built, and it would be a shame to lose any of them forever.

And not just any hypercar - the Koenigsegg One:1 is the most powerful car by the Swedish carmaker and also, most probably the fastest car on Earth. Gilbert is a third-generation stunt man with a family lineage going all the way back to Mickey Gilbert in Ben Hur. The antic chariot racing scenes in that 1959 film can be considered one of the precursors to the work Lance is doing on NfS, like the getting a Koenigsegg (replica) to flip out and explode on a bridge during a chase. It was a stunt that the director had planned to do with CGI until Lance convinced him that it could be done with real cars. Recently, BMW held a preview of its i cars here in Singapore and I had the opportunity to view the production-ready i3 and the i8 concept close up. Needless to say, these cars were stunning in their own ways. However, what caught my attention was what was powering the i8. A little 1.5-litre three-cylinder engine will be used and it will produce 231bhp with the help of turbocharging. That equates to a pretty impressive 154bhp/L, which is on a par with most non-hybrid high performance sports car engines. It is also the highest of any engine produced by the BMW Group. But being BMW, it's no surprise as they have been great at pushing high bhp/L numbers with their earlier M3s and M5s. With the engine capacity downsizing theme in trend and the need to make cars faster for the demanding customer, I wonder if there will unknowingly be a fight coming up for cars with the highest bhp/L? I did up a list of some of the highest bhp/L engines that are still in and those out of production. Do bear in mind those cars listed here have power figures straight from the factory and are covered under their manufacturer

There's no doubt that Swedish automaker Koenigsegg knows how to make some of the world's fastest production cars that ever exists. The company even makes sure that the twin-turbo 5.0-litre V8 engine of its production cars will run on E85 fuel. However, unfortunately, some places in this world just aren't quite ready for such fuel yet, just like in Singapore. So, keeping that in mind, it seems that despite the total power output of 927bhp offered by the Agera or 1,124bhp offered by the Agera R, neither of the models is really quite of our interest here in Singapore. That's not to mention the highly demanding price tag of the super car. However, realising that, Koenigsegg has finally produced the Agera S. Unlike its elder brothers, the Koenigsegg Agera S doesn't need ethanol to be mixed into its fuel. It'll run just fine with the fuel we already have here. In addition to that, this fine super car is quite powerful as well, offering the power of up to 1,040 horses. With all the advantages that it has, the Koenigsegg Agera S comes with a demanding price tag of around USD$4.2 million (approximately S$5.3 million). Yet, despite the price tag, the fourth example in the world has already met its new owner, who is a Singaporean. Yes, Koenigsegg recently introduced the Agera S here, at a special reception which was attended even by the founder of Koenigsegg Automotive AB himself, Mr. Christian von Koenigsegg. The reception took place at the Hotel Ritz Carlton Millenia on 14th June 2013. As it was private, the reception was only open to 200 VIPs and guests. The lucky person to have the fastest production car on our shores happened to be Ms. Angela Tan, wife of Mr. Denis Chua, an investor. According to Mr. Chua, he and his wife bought the car after having test-driven it personally in Sweden. Hand-crafted by Swedish skilled artisans with enhanced aerodynamics in mind, the Swedish luxury super car can go from 0-100km/h within a mere 2.9 seconds. In addition to that, the car will stop climbing speed only after it has reached a speed of at least 400km/h. How does that sound? The Koenigsegg Agera S super car was introduced to us here by the Motorway Group of Companies. This is a rental car company that also serves as a pre-owned luxury car specialist. When you have what it takes (and by that, I mean the money), there's no need to worry whether or not you will get what you want, even from such a world class automaker as Koenigsegg. At least, this is what happens in China. The Swedish automaker has built a stunning gold-plated Koenigsegg Agera R, and gives it the name Zijin, most likely specifically by request. The car seems to suit its name really well. It's painted with brilliant purple on the outside - a one-off finish which will really catch your eyes - and features gold on the inside. Just for your information, 'Zijin' is a Chinese word meaning 'purple gold'. However, don't be mistaken as not the entire interior is made of gold. The interior components that are gold plated include the centre console, air vent surrounds, steering wheel trim, and also a wide array of knobs and buttons. Well, to be honest with you, even if I had the money, there's no way I would have decorated my hypercar with the precious metal, although the metal did make the car look nice somehow. One problem I would be worried about is the added weight of the vehicle. Nevertheless, this doesn't seem to be a problem whatsoever in this case. To overcome the weight problem of this particularly made-for-Chinese car, Koenigsegg has decided to make use of its 5.0-litre twin-turbo V8 engine which is capable of delivering 1040bhp. Word is that the 2013 Agera R hypercar might take top spot in the fastest car category with a top speed of nearly 437km/h in coming months. Unbelievable. 1,115bhp and over 1,000Nm of torque as well as Michelin tires rated to over 400km/h and it has a Thule Ski-carrying box on its roof. This people is the Koenigsegg Agera R that will be on display at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show. Built for a customer that loves skiing, this Agera R also sports the Speed Racer Mach 10 color scheme and comes with two removable carbon fiber roofs, one the standard version and one that comes with the ski-box carrier. Imagine that. The car, the successor of the Koenigsegg CCXR, is Koenigsegg's latest effort. It is rear wheel drive and is powered by a 5.0 twin turbocharged V8 that has about 1,115bhp and was designed to try top the BUgatti Veyron's 431km/h maximum speed. However some people are realists and their Koenigsegg needs to carry their hobby stuff - like skis. Koenigsegg practically worked hand in hand to develop this roof carrier with Thule, that famous manufacturer of roof racks, boxes & bicycle carriers. This is surely one supercar that adds a dose of practicality instead of going for the full maximum acceleration or maximum speed records. Of course the Agera R still looks outrageous or is it outrageously practical? Whatever the case, I believe that this is the second most practical supercar launched after the station wagon looking Ferrari FF. A new era of supercar beckons. One with enough space to carry a whole week of groceries? Now this is news to me. -
