Kiwi Neutral Newbie September 15, 2005 Author Share September 15, 2005 So jia lat ar? Problem is dat I just went for my 80k servicing. Was told my cat is due for replacement. Will set me back by $3k+. So I thought maybe I'll do the Remus ($600+) and remove the cat as it is broken and making a lot of noise. Any suggestions from you guys? Sliderzhil Clutched September 15, 2005 Share September 15, 2005 Beachboys u r confusing the auto drivers out there... so does it affect or not? anyway de-cating aka "knocking" cost as low as $40??
Hyun Neutral Newbie September 15, 2005 Share September 15, 2005 tried to read up a bit about auto cars needing backpressure but i didn't quite understand the technical bits. what's the difference between auto and manual needing backpressure? it's the same engine, the same exhaust setup. the only difference between auto and manual is in the transmission. so logically speaking, the exhaust has no relevance to the transmission. exhaust only affects the engine. so if a manual car engine improves with exhaust mod, the auto should also improve. can any1 explain the reason? Wolverine Neutral Newbie September 15, 2005 Share September 15, 2005 Basically u want to REMOVE the bloody restrictive CAT...one way is to pluck out the original and replace with a free flow....that looks really obvious...but cool ....then the other way is to Knock the damn catalyst out of your original CAT box.....Do the latter...pass inspection
Contax 1st Gear September 16, 2005 Share September 16, 2005 (edited) Thank you. Scarli they use a mallet to knock knock the cat and discover that it's hollow inside.... then chia-luck-liao "sir , your cat just pass out with a hollow heart , please come back some day when your cat is healthy again.Thank you , we will retain the consultation fees.See you again, bye!" Dtoh Neutral Newbie September 16, 2005 Share September 16, 2005 Hi... How abt tis.... Do it like hoe flow thru is done. De-cat, do a flow thru welded from manifold to exhaust with the De-Cated and fill the empty space in the Cat wif the same type of mat'l as in the exhuast. Wat you guys tik??? Yeobh 4th Gear September 16, 2005 Share September 16, 2005 No need to knock , they just use a infra-red non contact thermometer to check exhaust temp at pre-cat and post cat. If there is no differenct in temp chances it is a dummy or the cat is faulty. If the cat is faulty normally it will indicated by high CO & HC emission readings. Jchuacl Clutched September 16, 2005 Share September 16, 2005 When I went to Vicom for inspection after installing aftermarket exhaust, the guy at the inspection did do some tapping when he went under the car to look at the entire setup from the engine bay till the exhaust tip.
