Roro77 Neutral Newbie October 7, 2005 Share October 7, 2005 (edited) I'm another of those procrastinators.. Well after reading up on an earlier thread frm Leonknapp I bought the soft99 wax. Didn't do much surface prep since my ride is on Glare. So basically mine is Glared -> wash -> wax Result is shiny but somehow can see patches of uneven-ness. (Very irritating. Why ah? Poor surface prep? Or due to poor bonding with the Glare sealant?) Paintwork is smooth and even smells nice because of the wax! Beading looks really good and typically subsides after 1 week ++ at most give it 2 weeks. So now I'm considering using a clay + polish + wash + sealant + wax system. Just bought a claybar from autobacs (carmate brand) Also got a few qns, 1. Can polish remove watermarks? Which ones are recommended for newbie? Believe mine are not deeply etched. 2. Polish doesn't necessarily require a rotary/orbital machine right? 3. What sealant is recommended? I personally want to try Leonknapp's recommendation (Fusso) 4. Is Meguiar's NXT shampoo worth it? I'm tempted to use what Gen2 use.. hehee (Meg gold class) Would really appreciate some advice from the detailing pros here. Thanks in advance Bro, Gen2 stuff is but dont forget the techniques also play a part. The tools AND the techniques help to achieve the best result... bro, I recommend #21 from Meguiar... I also recomment using Klasse AIO (All in one) , Klasse AIO is very easy to use and produces a deep shine as well. www.Klassesg.com Edited October 7, 2005 by Roro77
Silver_blade Turbocharged October 7, 2005 Share October 7, 2005 Agree...good equip and products are important but the person's (the one who do it) technique and experience are also.
Roro77 Neutral Newbie October 7, 2005 Share October 7, 2005 Personally, I'd have stuck with Klasse. Just buy one of the kits, and it should last you a year, assuming you stick with a once-a-week maintenance schedule. Once a week, just wash the car with a normal car shampoo (I like the Blakc Magix wax-friendly car wash shampoo), dry it with a good chamois (I've been using the Autoglym Aqua-Dry for over a year already), then apply a thin coat of Klasse Sealant Glaze. Twice a year, or once a quarter, put aside a couple of hours for applying AIO to clean up the paintwork, and reapply the SG layers. SG seems to offer pretty good protection (around 2 weeks at least, parked outdoors), and is easy to apply (using the wax-on, wax-off technique), and offers fantastic shine. If time is in short supply, you can always SG the car once a fortnight, and all it will take is half an hour of your time, excluding washing and drying. Detailing is not meant to be a once-a-week wash affair. Either you love your car and spend some quality time keeping it in tip-top shape, or spend money on a package and let the professionals get the job done on a bi-monthly basis. But keep in mind that while they do it for a living, no one cares for your car more than you :) Me too, im stuck wif Klasse, Klasse AIO especially. Gen2 Neutral Newbie October 7, 2005 Share October 7, 2005 n how's the durability. Cannot really share on this topic because the longest I waited before I rewax my car again is 1 month, which I think quite a number of LSP can last for 1 month. But for those who like to know more about a proper detailing process, below is a link which you might be interested in, http://meguiarsonline.com/forums/showthrea...=&threadid=2409
Diamond2006 1st Gear October 7, 2005 Share October 7, 2005 after go through the meguiarsonline thread, does that mean sealant=wax? please advise...getting confuse here
Gen2 Neutral Newbie October 7, 2005 Share October 7, 2005 From wat I understand, sealant normally refer to man made wax, totally synthetic, whereas wax refers to product that contains natural ingrediant like the carnauba wax. Generally, a sealant will have a better durability and shine whereas a carnauba wax will give a warm and wet look to the car.

Gen2 Neutral Newbie October 7, 2005 Share October 7, 2005 so the correct procedure is as follows: 1. washing 2. detailing/claying 3. polishing 4. sealanting 5. wax (optional according to your preference) what is their frequency? weekly/monthly/quarterly/yearly? It really depands on how much you love your car . Washing should be done on a weekly basis if possible, claying only when required, polishing maybe 3-4 times a year, waxing or sealant at least once a month. How does this sound to you ? Roro77 Neutral Newbie October 7, 2005 Share October 7, 2005 Last weekend, I spend about 4.5 hours over 2 days to wash (shampoo), apply sealant and wax. End result is kinda disppointing. The car is not as shiny as I hope it would be. I have the same problem as you cos I also worked in the Jurong Area close to the conventional port so you can imagine. No comments on duriability yet since its been only a week. Will be able to comment more when I wash and wax my ride over the weekend. Bro, what did you use? Number19 Neutral Newbie October 7, 2005 Share October 7, 2005 (edited) Ok I just read up a bit on what is #21, so its a synthetic sealant right? Where can I get it? The pic on Meguiar's website shows a large bottle, got smaller portioned size or not? Can I/Should I use carnuba wax on top of it? And lastly the cost.. don't think its that cheap right? I'll be going to Autobaccs for shopping soon~ Edited October 7, 2005 by Number19

Anders213 Neutral Newbie October 8, 2005 Share October 8, 2005 #21 only available in those barrels. Only #20 is available in small bottles. And from what i read on Meg's forum, we can top up anything(sealant or wax) above the synthetic sealant(#20m #21). #20 1 small bottle about $20 at Autobacs.
