Nissantoot Neutral Newbie October 15, 2005 Share October 15, 2005 Anyone tried this before? A piece of black colored material stuck at the back of the brake pad. Reduces the noise during braking. I tried it and it seems to work but cost me 20 bucks for four pieces. Anyone tried this before and how much did u pay? ↡ Advertisement
Slowpoke156 Neutral Newbie October 15, 2005 Share October 15, 2005 It's called a shim, and normally fitted to resolve squeaky brake problems. Not usually necessary, unless you 1)suay 2)use cheap chiong pads 3)change pad type

Jnetjnjn Neutral Newbie October 20, 2005 Share October 20, 2005 Hi, I've just changed my front brake pads a few months back & now, I keep hearing this "click!" sound when I depressed the brake paddle fully. Also, I hear it when I apply the brake while reversing. What's wrong?

I only knew about the shims but I apply a thin layer of HT grease to prevent rust also. This is the best way to prevent brake squeal.
Nissantoot Neutral Newbie October 20, 2005 Author Share October 20, 2005 Probably the back of your brake pad is causing the sound. I had that problem too and added 4 pieces of shrims (cost me 20 bucks). Solved the problem but i think it can be cheaper. Use the high temp grease first (that should be free). Then use the shrim if all else fail.

Valjean Neutral Newbie October 22, 2005 Share October 22, 2005 My gf's FL N16 (Sunny) has this problem with creaking brakes. The noise is extremely loud, especially in the mornings and during wet days. Complained to TC but they say that it's like that and demo'd to us that the same sound is produced by new cars at the showroom. Looks like I can recommend these 'shims' to her. Can recommend where to get? Thanks!
Erikkson Neutral Newbie October 22, 2005 Share October 22, 2005 (edited) try getting it from where you got your brakes. complain that it's damm noisy and hope they give u a discount. If they don't have, drop me a private note, i'll give you the shop's location. My new Lancer is barely 3 months old, and I am already getting screeching from the brakes everytime after I start the car. Initially I thought it was a minor problem, so the first time it happened, I sent the Lancer to C&C Ubi, and they serviced the brakes. After servicing, the brakes were quiet, but lately the sound is getting louder and louder again. It seems like servicing the brakes is not a long term solution. Does any one have experience with this problem? I heard if u install a "shim" on the brakes, that will solve the screeching sound? Its irritating and I want to get rid of it permanently...any ideas? Many thanks for ur advice. EDIT: My brakes are default Lancer brakes from C&C. First set, 3 months old.
