Gexer Neutral Newbie November 8, 2005 Share November 8, 2005 (edited) r u sure that for AT, 4-2-1 is good for high end and 4-1 is good for low end? i thought it's the other way round? IMO yes. reason is that 4-2-1 allows high exhaust flow output. and 4-1 is not. but for a AT you need a lot more back pressure as compare to MT to shut your extractor gate to retain the compression within the engine. so if you lup in 4-2-1 for AT, you are losing more back pressure that what it is suppose to thus losing compression. for MT is different. you are controlling the gate somewhat manually. so you want exhuast to get out asap. so a high flow system is what you need. thus TC and SC cars will need even bigger pipe line for its exhaust. so for AT cars i only think that 2" or less diameter for the whole pipe line and keeping cat, resonator and muffler for your low end. for MT you can go slightly bigger pipe line. for TC and SC for somewhere in the 3" catagory. you also have to look at how the 4 is join to 2 and 2 to join to 1. and the angle of the extractor. heat wrap your extractor is pros and cons, the cons.....your extract will crack after some time as the steel have no rooms to expand and contract. IMO AT and MT dun really need wraps. all these are of my own reference. dun flame / quote me yah. Edited November 8, 2005 by Gexer

BMW320i Neutral Newbie November 9, 2005 Share November 9, 2005 With open pod, most say people's butt dyno say they could detect 50 ponies in performance gains. Honestly, I can't feel it and neither could the rest but rather, pod filters gives a more responsive rev + throttle response. With intakes and exhaust mods, your looking for a smooth or rather a more free flow concept. Stock intakes are restrictive and hence pod filters helps the engine breathe or draw air easier. A slightly larger diameter exhaust piping gives an easy out concept. Doing your extractors would mean the air flow will be restrictive when the engine draws air from stock intakes and once again restricted by the small exhaust piping. Hence you won't see much gains. In my opinion, I would say do pod filters, 2 1/4" S/S Catback, Extractors (tuned length with heat wrap) and aftermarket ECU (Piggyback or Standalone) This should fully take advantage of all your mods. Sparcoray Clutched November 12, 2005 Share November 12, 2005 bro... ur explanations is my personal views, intakes consist of a good HS+CAI+Open Pod that will not makes ur car lose the low-end. Doing the extractors to either 4-1 or 4-2-1 over the stock 4-1 is to allow the car to exhaust better as the stock 4-1 is relatively small piping. Aftermarket ECU piggyback (Unichip, obit or emanage), with proper tuning for A/F ratio helps ur car perform better. lastly, a good set of tires and a good set of braking system helps one's fast car stop on time and avoid accident. pardon me for my limited knowledge

Stock245r Neutral Newbie November 18, 2005 Share November 18, 2005 Bro, I think open pod and extractor wont be able to give 50 extra ponies lah. This figure are more like when you lub turbo or change to racing cam. Personally if you can get 20 ponies for those 2, you should be laughing already. Adrianli Hypersonic November 18, 2005 Share November 18, 2005 1. theres no legal way of doing this2. highly unlikely to get caught at road block for this 3. inspections 100% fail there are ways to get it done.. everythigns not a crime until u get caught rite? hah My previous ride a COE Honda Civic GL had a 4-2-1 extractor done by the previous owner. The car had been through 3 inspections n passed with flying colours. 1st Viacom sent in by dealer. 2nd inspection sent in to JIC by myself. 3rd inspection sent to Viacom by myself again. I do not think they will check on extractors particularly but rather the whole exhaust system especially the CAT.

Adrianli Hypersonic November 22, 2005 Share November 22, 2005 I knew they r illegal but its not me who installed it. I could have acted blur n said I do not know anything abt it and bought the car as it is. COE car liao, where to find stock extractor!!! I'm going to do it to my current ride once warranty is up. Now still under servicing by agent so cannot. Anyway my current ride is sunny n 4-2-1 suppose to improve the low end.

Hi there, Do take the time to re-read what I just wrote previously. In case you haven't noticed, I was being sarcastic with regards to 50 ponies gains. As always, aftermarket ECU be it piggyback or standalone will take full advantage of these mods and maximise gains. With regards to braking system, Brembos are great but the price might be steep for most. If operating on limited budget, try changing rotors to slotted and reasonable brake pads. Careful consideration with brake pads are needed because something like Endless will chew away your stock rotors. Shouldn't go pass the $1500 figure I hope. Might be a good idea to stay away from drilled though the blingz is there. They are known to crack.
