Genie47 1st Gear December 22, 2005 Share December 22, 2005 Eh? You know that Group III base stock is legally considered synthetic? Yeah, I know it is actually higher refined mineral oil but it is quite good and cheaper compared to Group IV PAO or Group V esters. If X-Rev is actually synthetic like you claimed but uses mostly Group III base stock since it is legal to call it synthetic, wouldn't X-Rev actually be ripping us off with that kind of pricing? With that kind of price, it better be lots of Group IV or V in there. ↡ Advertisement
Southpark2000 Neutral Newbie December 22, 2005 Share December 22, 2005 (edited) Hmmm interesting comments Prof Genie, Which the obvious questions for x-lube: - what base stocks? which group? - technical specs (all that viscoscity, flash points, pour points, etc. info and not mere SL grade) - not sold / used in US? (i thot I saw wheels mag says it's US-based lubri specialist, plus it's hardly "independent" test....) - no 4-balls wear test? etc. Does not tell me really how diff. is this oil beyond some mktg hype (nano-tech, etc.). Moly will oso bond and give superior anti-friction too as claimed. And we noe it works. And for illustration, Schaeffers has it too.... 250-300ppm worth. And for S$8 per quart. and yes, BTW, AMSOIL, Schaeffers, RedLine, Royal Purple oso independent as per x-lube. No incentive to "sell petrol". (NB. the reasoning as I u'std it is that oil coys will not give u good engine oil for FC as they wan to sell u more petrol. If so, then those coys I list here oso as independent and no incentive as wif x-lube). Fluffy Clutched December 22, 2005 Share December 22, 2005 (edited) At $29.90 for 5L, you'd have to wonder what you are really getting in cxxxxxe? Is it fully synthetic? You can aso get mineral oil with API - SL grading. And mineral oil is cheap. Good fully synthetic base oil and the best additives (in the right quantity for you to feel the difference) are costly, especially these days. Anyway, true to my personal convictions, if you've tried it and you like it, then great for you! apparently you don't know much about cxxxxxe. It was developed with Lotus Motorsport and was involved with TVR and Morgan racing. now, what is X-rev oil? who makes it? who are these people? the pictures on the website shows a European and some huge building, but address only states Bukit Merah..... Stary Turbocharged December 22, 2005 Share December 22, 2005 haha...I just realise that the Bukit Merah address is just next to my office block. Maybe I should just walk over and see how "grand" is their office....
Stary Turbocharged December 22, 2005 Share December 22, 2005 Fluffy, I dunno who makes X-rev...but for one thing, they are surely a bunch of religious fanatics. Read their Vission statements : "Vision The vision of the Company is to be a Kingdom Enterprise, living out the divine destiny that God has called the business and everyone involved in it to." This is the first time in my working life that I seen a company with God in their Vision statement. And their mission statement? To honor God in everything that we do. To provide the best available automotive products to our customers, thereby extending the useful life of a vehicle. To employ cutting-edge technology with a value-for-money pricing model. To service our stakeholders with excellence

Fortress Clutched December 22, 2005 Share December 22, 2005 Honestly, there are spec in the engine oil, API standards, which all engines are based on. Still trying to understanding what so special about many Lub Oil, like Amsoil, deep purple(thought it was a rock group) etc...More importantly, our cars are very pampered, running only 10 years. More importantly, sure oil have not spec nor tests that ensure the long term effects on your engine, other than someone's testimony. That was actually what happened to Slick 50, if I am not wrong, Power up or something.

Still_wishing Neutral Newbie December 22, 2005 Share December 22, 2005 My fren tested the XREV 5W40 last week on his Altis 1.8...the engine became noticeably noisier after just 3 days, FC remains the same though nothing special at all he said...the benchmark on performance & smoothness r no where close to the Chemlube oil at $17/qt he used previously. He's going to drain it soon...
Lexl Neutral Newbie December 23, 2005 Share December 23, 2005 Hi NA. That's strange as I'm driving a similar car, although an earlier 1.6 (made in Japan) model. But that should not make any difference. I've clocked about 3,000km and the lube still feels great. To each his own I guess....
