Thanks for sharing again. Finally got my optra estate abt 1+ month back after eyeing it almost a year and really enjoying the ride. I like your comprehensive review (pity though think that review in the old chevy folder is lost) on the car (I am a type 1 buyer of the estate too). Read and learn a lot abt the car from your discussions with fellow forumers (roboto, chevro, forenzawagon etc) too. Wonder if any local estate owner actually done any BK for this car.... Chevro Neutral Newbie February 24, 2006 Share February 24, 2006 Another Estate Owner. Welcome. Estate is slight under power but with manual, still managable. BTW, what is BK?

Munch Neutral Newbie February 24, 2006 Share February 24, 2006 BK = Body kit. Anyone knows where sell the same bodykit shown in the pictures?
Alfc 5th Gear February 24, 2006 Share February 24, 2006 Thanks. BK as explained by Munch. So far haven seen any estate done to that kind of look here yet... in fact becos of the rarity of this model, hardly ever met another one on the road. Agree that pick up (especially 1st gear) is slow due to slight underpower and long gear travel but once on the go, the ride is very enjoyable. Anyway, i am not the racer-type driver so the latter quality is wat i buy the car for.
Chevro Neutral Newbie February 24, 2006 Share February 24, 2006 Oh, thanks for point out. I am not so on modi. You also own Optra?
Chevro Neutral Newbie February 24, 2006 Share February 24, 2006 (edited) Ya, Estate is still rare in SG. I only met Robeto once on the road. But can meet more at meetup. Also at my home carpark, I can see one silver Estate sometime visit. It is value for money car. Very big space and boot. Handling good, stable on highway and cornering. Bought for 1 year still like it very much. You can change to sports rim for slight better pick up and may be better FC. Chevro Neutral Newbie February 24, 2006 Share February 24, 2006 sounds like Estate owner?
Alfc 5th Gear February 24, 2006 Share February 24, 2006 actually the uniqueness is wat i like abt the car as well. Do u estate guys meet regularly? would be good to hear abt your car ownership experiences. yup really getting a lot of car and drivability for the money... been eyeing it for a year and no other option actually change my mind abt buying it. Thanks for the tip.. My ride has been completely stock so far. Have considered changing rims but heard some mention that 15" wld add to higher FC so decide to hold back mayb later then change (save $$$$ too). I feel FC is somethng that depends a lot also on driving habits.... so far getting between 11-12 km/l on 70-80% city driving.
Nerd_on_wheels Neutral Newbie February 26, 2006 Author Share February 26, 2006 :) No regrets rite :) so I suppose yours is still the korean manual version ? The R+ has a lot of parts that can be uses on our car, like the gear knob, the arm rest, panel trim, I believe if its gm production model, SA will be able to buy it in if we place the order at some waiting expense (of course, not the supercharger, big disc brakes and associated performance enhanced parts). Once the car is place on sales, then we can piggy back on its spare. I seldom hang around the forum as much already, but if see any sw talk, I will chip in if there are some opinion required on the car, since I have own it relatively long already like chevro and roberto. There is a lot of meetup opportunity, just that work commitment makes it hard for us to join. Maybe just one day just the sw people can come out for tea maybe also at the usual macdonalds. 15" rim won't affect fc really, as far as fc is concern, mine is always consistent no matter my driving habit. but my dunlop tyre a bit noisy, so you should choose carefully btw looks, noise and grip depend on what you want. Nerd_on_wheels Neutral Newbie February 26, 2006 Author Share February 26, 2006 yo hows life. as part of the bota sw gang, we also not really modders :) maybe lack of things to buy anyway. DOne up ur leather seat already ? Have you let SA add in the 2nd fan on the radiator already ? recently my car alarm will go off on its own randomly, call SA, and they immediately know whats wrong and ask me to bring in, 10 min job settle already. seem like there are other occurance of this thats why they know. but they quite secretive about it and not letting me see how they fix. You encounter this problem ?
Alfc 5th Gear February 26, 2006 Share February 26, 2006 Good to hear from you :) Yup my still the korean manual one. Actually SE told me auto coming in March (think in the papers already) but I perfer and drive maunal all my life so no point to wait. Heard in future even the maunal one will come from Thailand so grab the korean-made one first. But having said that, the auto seem to have some nice extras like electric folding mirror, dual airbag. Howver, auto still 1.6 so pick up going to be even more sluggish and fc higher. I guess pple who like this car are those who shld go for ride comfort and handling. Wow that would be great if can get some of the R+ stuff u mentioned. Really considering the rims and speakers for my first mods. I am not the "poisonous" sort anyway. :) Would be good to see and heear from the other bros in the limited sw grp. My sense from the discussions seem that we belong to the more "uncle" grp? Chevro Neutral Newbie February 27, 2006 Share February 27, 2006 Hi, Nerd. I am fine and thanks. In SG, Everything is regular everyday, that is good and bad. I've changed to leather seat, acturally half leather, with some other Chevrolet owner. Good thing is it is maintance free, at least for me. Also added second van after SA called. You are right, my car also alarm go weired recently but will repair till upcoming service. I also read Robeto mentioned about this problem on forum. All the best. Chevro Neutral Newbie February 27, 2006 Share February 27, 2006 Ya, agree with you, it is unique car. Not like Jap car, two year later, you see replacement and need to change your car again. maybe after 5 year, still no replacement. So we can continue to drive if you like. It is good you can achieve 11-12 km/l. Maybe after 10k service and change to thinner oil you may get more. I changed my rim to 15 and now 20K is about that range. But more confidence at cornering. Alfc 5th Gear February 27, 2006 Share February 27, 2006 I guess if you buy a car you like very much, then the likelihood of driving it longer is there. Thats why I pick this wagon. All the more this is important cos the way car ownership cost is structured here now also makes it real expensive to switch in short term. I am using the cxxxxxe 5w40 synthetic oil now. Jus stock up another 2 more bottles at carrefour for my next 2 servicing. So got to stick to this a while and so far so good. Thanks for yours and Nerds' advice on the rims. Good to know 15" din really FC that much if I choose the weight and the tyres wisely. Most likely make that my second mod after i am done with some minor enhancements to the sound system. Nerd_on_wheels Neutral Newbie March 2, 2006 Author Share March 2, 2006 but this car after driving it a while, u dun really feel like doing anything more on it. I dun know about you, but that happen to me. I only upgrade the sound and the wheels, then all else is the same. Oh ya, I did add in the fog light also, but its off most of the time. But at least urs had the roof rack, couple with a nice set of wheels, the exterior basically is done. Interior once u have descent sound, I think all else I will be able to live with it for a long time to come. maybe its sooo bang for bucks, size, drive. I crossing to uncle soooon, 3 decade has pass :(
Nerd_on_wheels Neutral Newbie March 2, 2006 Author Share March 2, 2006 ya, boring. My interior now a bit messy never take good care, but I do wash the exterior occasionally. But if u can, just drop by SA, its less than 10 min job and no need booking for the alarm thing. My worries is still middle of the night, it went off and disturb the sleeping folks, the factory alarm is not exacly soft u know of course, there is battery concern too. but seem like they adjust it, now ok already. my 20k coming in april, urs should be around that time too rite ? Long time never chat with roberto too. after april, maybe I try to org one chat chat wagon meetup. ↡ Advertisement
