1000 Servicing Using SYNTHETIC OIL

Hi All,

 

Today went to KMC to service 1000km.

To my surprise, TA strongly recommend to change to SYNTHETIC OIL instead of MINERAL OIL.

 

Is this a norm?

Can anyone advise?

 

Since now its changed to SYNTHETIC OIL, can i speed above 80km? or still keep driving below 80km?

how much is the diff between mineral and synthetic and when is your next servicing?

the TA might work based on commision?

Change to synthetic or mineral doesn't really matter. Your car doesn't give a damn. All it cares about is if there is enough oil to generate oil pressure. Speed if you must.

Honda servicing also uses synthetic oil at 1k.

I really don't know if they are on commission or not.

But i was really uneasy when TA asked me to use Synthetic oil during 1K servicing.

 

Also, when i collected my car, the wheel alignment was swaying left.

After one week of driving, i send in my car for some recification and also made this remarks on the wheel alignment.

All they did is to rotate the wheels.

 

During 1K servicing, i brought it up again still the alignment is not there.

TA told me that it will need to be run in for 10K then will be able to know.

 

Now the problem is, should i go back to KMC and demand a wheel alignment to be done?

Kah Motors uses Shell Helix Ultra 5w40 for their servicing.

 

Personally, I bring in my own 5w30 oil. Thinner and save me 30 odd dollars.

strange...tot tyre rotation and wheel allignment are 2 different things..and wheel allignment/balancing doesnt need to wait till 10km to see results.

 

if your next servicing is at 3km or 5km, u still need to replace the engine oil...hence its more economical to use mineral at this juncture..technical wise to use synthetic now, no issue..

No it is not the speed, It is the RPM that you must observse. I was told 3000, but I limited myself to 2500 during run in.

Previously I understand u were doing your calculations.

 

From my experience, BM recommended mineral oil until my car hit 5km mileage.

Reason is the engine is still not "season" yet.

Hence I followed the recommendation.

Yes....I was shock when the TA told me that they'd done tyre rotation when i collected my car.

 

Don't think the TA knows the difference between alignment and rotations.

 

So, even after rotation, when i let go my steering wheel, the car is shifting left. Looks like rotation is also o used.

 

So, synthetic oil is still ok....only lookout is the RPM.

Hello Zoom,

 

Yes, i did a calculation the last time about changing my car and brothers and sisters here advise me not to do so.

 

Then when i approach my personal SE, she told me that i can make change since the COE is pretty low.

I tried to go for bidding in January not knowing that i got it with one bid.

Still thinking that it may not be so lucky to go with one bid. But who knows.. i got it.

 

My ride now is Sonata 06 2.0l. I personally believe this capacity is enough for me. No point to have a 2.4l where the size is the same except the engines.

Paying lower premium and lower depreciations.

Your engine must be those with CVVT, right. Ever since Hyundai uses engine with CVVT, they advice user to use Synthnic oil all the way. Maybe the heat and the extra machanisiam need more better oil...

I notice that after my 1k and 5k servicing using mineral oil, my FC actually drop a bit. But I still light foot and travel mostly on expressway.

 

Is it becos of engine oil still new?
