Good-Carbuyer 1st Gear August 19, 2010 Share August 19, 2010 Best way to get a good fuel consumption is to buy a flat near jurong extension, then work nightshift at some building just off the highway Your driving route makes a huge difference to your consumption figures. Jurong to airport... I get about 15km/l average... getting to work in the morning with the jams... 8-9km/l would be generous. If you are gliding a manual trans vehicle on neutral .... you do save fuel. BUT.... It is very very dangerous to do so. When you skid. You lose total control. Even at relatively slow speeds. Hypermiling isn't about road hogging, obstructing, dangerous, and reckless driving. It is in fact the complete opposite of ""bad"". I wonder who has been brainwashing the readers. One has to be responsible enough as a reader to go out into the physical world to experiment and discover instead of being strapped into the internet armchair making ridiculous and sensless comments. As Good CarBuyer mentioned before... not in exactly the same words.... these methods are tried and tested by the car owners/drivers themselves. Basically... Hypermiling is very much about adapting one's speed to the flow of traffic based on the traffic condition that one is driving in. Hypermiling is about merging in and out of main roads as smoothly and as accurately as one can possibly achieve. Hypermiling is very much about throttle contol besides just improving the technicalities of the physical make of the engine and car. Additionally... The safe distance that one keeps away from the car in front allows.... * ...the driver time to react to the sudden changes in speed(in front) without disrupting too much to the flow of momentum. * ...other drivers to filter smoothly into your lane without causing you to slam on your brakes. * ...you to filter into other people's lane without causing others to slam on their brakes. * ...you and other drivers leeway to manouver away and into the safety space in the event of emergencies. * ...you to maintain in motion so as to avoid the stop-start phenomenon. * ...you to maintain in motion so as to minimise the use of 1st, and, or 2nd gear... which ALL hybrid car makers know IS the compelling factor in high fuel consumption.
