Fuel Consumption Saving Tips

I wrote an article on FC savings... See Tip 3. If everyone does practices tip 3, everyone will be able to save loads of petrol.

http://hubpages.com/hub/Would-you-like-to-...uel-consumption

I thought detouring around traffic jams more effective than anticipating traffic lights (example: there can be more than 10 red-lights stop/start among traffic jams over a distance of 25 metres). Detouring got me about 2km/L better FC (not measured with the tip 3 yet), would appreciate if you share your observations with tip 3.

Many thanks

Hey guys. Im driving a bm2 325i E93. my fuel consumption is crazy, 18.2l/100km. Besides rev-ing less and not dragging gears, How else can i lower it? Im using SPC petrol 98.

:o

my! :o

that works out to only 5.5km per litre of fuel...

though i know the jams can get pretty bad at peak hours.

maybe i suggest you get your car checked at the workshop first!

Extra load yes but spare tyre? not very safe leh.

Hi, care to elaborate why removing spare tyre is not safe? Is it reducing the crush zone, or affecting the balance of the car?

odo meter? ....... i wonder tail gate will increase fuel economy :excl: but i know it's dangerous......

If you are kidding with us. This is ticklish. No fuel economy adequate to pay if you rear end front vehicle?

Is it normal for a BMW, never have the money to drive such cars before.

Maybe it is time to change car [rolleyes]

BTW, have you tried to inflate your tires to higher pressure? about 5 to 10% higher than recommended.

bcos yr car is heaving, simple. It has a hard top roof that is 200kg more than a coupe equivalent and yr car comes with run flat tyres and rims that are usually 5 to 6 kg heavier per rim/tyre compared to forged rim from brands like OZ, BBS, Volks, Advan etc. I cant drive that car in the way I like it if I dont put in Sports mode which will of cos further increase the FC. I tested the E93 325/335 n even my wife find it 'slow' unless u drive in Sports mode n rev it up. Mind you the RFT and rims are damn heavy. Most owners driving 335s experience high FC also on stock RFT/rim when they first collect the cars n had to visit the petrol station once every 3 days. I would say dump them n get aftermarket rims and tyre that will save you about 3 kgs per corner. U will feel a world of difference. if u want to but not critical, get aftermarket BBKs like Brembos and stoptechs. Again the stock brakes are heavy like hell.

Mine is a E92 335. I use the lightest rim/tyre/bbk I can find. Half a tank of fuel topped to the rim at can take me to Sungei Besi. of cose92 is almost over 200kg lighter than yr E93 in kerb weight, and probably at least 6-7 kgs lighter in unsprung weight per corner.

But then if u drive spiritedly, u have to expect higher FC. If u drive M3, worse because in normal drive mode the rpm hovers around 3k rpm.

Resonably, a 2,000 plus cc car can get you about 12km to 14km/litre on singapore roads. If you do have a turbo boost meter installed TRY to keep the needle below Zero boost as much as you can when you cruise. All other tips are already mentioned in the earlier part of this thread.

One of the non-technical methods is to anticipate the traffic way ahead of you to avoid unnecessary hard acceleration and also to avoid "rev & brake" driving. The smoother you drive, the lower the consumption. Its that simple.
