need adv from the expert ..

i went to JM Audio for a quote and adv to improve on my sound system ... which recommend by my friend who drive a same car ( Legacy )..

was quoted $1600+ include soundproof 2 layer for 4 doors, change cable ( so call good cable ... i think is called Canare cable ), RCA cable, fulse box, do up a board behind the boot and tuning + workmanship ... wl be using back my own amp and also orgnal speaker ... and hv to leave the car for whole day, according to the boss, one day they only do one car ... [sweatdrop][sweatdrop]

also went ot Audioedge today ... ask me to change every thing .. headunit, spker, cable, add amp etc ... cost ard $2k ... [sweatdrop][sweatdrop][sweatdrop]

anyone know how is their workmanship and also their charges?

or anyone know of other good installer to recommend?

Hi,its true that you have to leave the car for a day as they will utlise all manpower for your car, well, its not that one day they do only one car,but just that if you have an appt with JM,they will focus on your car,of course, they will still be entertaining other customers who are only doing minor stuffs.I've been there.....and at least,I know they are quite steady in this way.

I think in the end, you have to really decide yourself which installer you are comfortable with...some will ask you to change everything , some will understand your needs and requirements and will recommend you accordingly..after,its your $$$.

Meanwhile, you can wait for anyone who can recommend some installer.

If HU + SPEAKER + AMP + CABLE = 2K ..guess the stuffs are of average standard.

Bro,you might want to consider changing speaker , hu or adding amp separately cos you will hear the difference each time you change. So maybe for the start,do up your boot first.

$1.6k to $2k sounds pretty market standard rate for the things you mentioned here...

but my question here is do you really need such a good ICE in yr car? are yr ears so picky and fussy abt sound quality?

if yr ears are not so picky, you can spend alot lesser and still be happy abt yr ICE.

simple change will be urgrade yr original speakers to better ones, throw in some tweeters and SP yr FRONT doors and wheel arcs.(Back doors no need to SP la!) this will cost you alot lesser, maybe $500 at most and you can surely hear alot of difference already!

Hi Guys!

EHonda already stated that he is using back his own stuff! The price quoted is only for cabling, fuse box, board, SP and installation - NOT inclusive of the amp & spkrs.

In my opinion, a bit on the expensive side [nod] but depends on the materials/cables actually used - which can come up to a fair bit.

E.g. if using 0-gauge cable then that by itself already $200 - 300. Canare interconnects are decent cables - but also dependent on the model which they are using. Ultimately your choice - find someone that you are comfortable with.

hi there

if u driving a legacy with the stock McIntosh system, do reconsider if u really wanna revamp ur system

it's not fantastic, but it's also pretty much worthless taken out (proprietry system using 1 amp to power all the speakers [:/] )

JM has done a few legacy's, either keeping & improving original setup or total revamp. I'm sure the price breakdown has been explained to you so u can do your own comparisons. We can't help much here without knowing what exactly make up the $1.6k

recommended that you think about it

tks for all the reply, i forgot to mention that the price quoted by Audioedge is only for front spker, not change all the spker ... but it include cables, front door sound proof, boxs and a amp .. didn't go into details ... maybe wl pay them a visit again to find out more details ..

my friend told me that JM boss wl do the tunning himself after installation whereas Adioedge i not sure .... anyone can adv?
