Manfred_sg Neutral Newbie July 11, 2006 Author Share July 11, 2006 quietness is relative to each person and the car. if yr car sound insulation is good, any tyre you buy will be quiet! if you drive a Lexus, you can buy the most nosiest tyre and yet still think the tyre is v quiet! so, you need to know yr car insulation. Ppl in forum here can tell this tyre and that tyre is quiet and not quiet, but all are driving diff cars from yours. so the best way to judge is to sit in another same model car as yours and hear the tyre from inside cabin, then you will know the real effect. another thing, other ppl's ears are different from yours. to them, this tyre is quiet, but to you, its not. I have spent>1K on sound proofing do help alot but still looking at a quiet tyre. I am trying to compare apple to apple. I would like to but difficult to achieved. I am comparing Variable tyre but one set of ear. Thankyou for your advise
Manfred_sg Neutral Newbie July 11, 2006 Author Share July 11, 2006 I am weary on Falken especially when stamford comes in. I do not consider GR80 as a performance.
Manfred_sg Neutral Newbie July 11, 2006 Author Share July 11, 2006 Thanks, CSCP3 is coming Sept, ithink, pricewise likely to be >$200. in your choice other than Maxis, I am in the same frequency as you are. From one of the report I read, Maxis though less quiet than Preceda but pretty close if I remeber correctly, but since nobody else have tried it I don't think I will be the first to try nah. Seem like 2 top player still dominates.
Toyo 1st Gear July 11, 2006 Share July 11, 2006 U shld try GR80. He said performance tyre. GR80 is an all rounder, can't take as much fanging as the rest. performance tyre are usually noisy, so when talking abt quiet performance tyre i thought its shld be a all rounder tyre
Furrynadz 5th Gear July 11, 2006 Share July 11, 2006 for ur reading pleasure this test is very accurate, results match a lot of real life feedback http://planetsoarer.com/06tyre/index.htm
Furrynadz 5th Gear July 11, 2006 Share July 11, 2006 ok heres my take on the maxxis brand its just like federal, falken put one sh1tty brand UHP in the brand, the rest sux and nobody cares fk451/452 good, the rest..nothing to sing abt..besides cheap....ceebic racers love ST115 federal, only the 595 the rest u see already lagi sian maxxis even worse, ma-z1 seems a clone of eagle f1 and yoko advan sport put together, and it IS noisy, and the rest of the maxxis range, i go amk autopoint the store see see...forget it.. a good tyre brand should have competent performers across the board, like michelin, conti, bridgestone, yokohama clear defined goals of each segment of tyre not just hampalang whack here there throw out to mkt sell
Elfenstar 3rd Gear July 11, 2006 Share July 11, 2006 From his list, i think he's asking for which of the performance tyres are the least noisy.
Furrynadz 5th Gear July 11, 2006 Share July 11, 2006 ok help u make ur choice wat makes tyre noise? 1) thread design : v groove = more noise, straight grooves = less noise 2) block size : bigger block = more grip, smaller block = less grip , but eliminate hammering noise, think of rolling a circle pipe vs a hexagonal/octagonal pipe...get the idea? 3) size of longkang, longkang more big, flow more liquid thru, look more appealing especially if big and deep longkang...see liao eye song song...ok sorry OT liao... bigger longkang = more air go thru = more noise 4) compound : softer = less noise+more grip, harder = more noisy and less grip so sum up u need a tyre which has relatively straight grooves, relatively small blocks, relatively avg sized longkang, and soft compound for ur needs : quietest performance 1) ma-z1 : hard compound, big block, SUPER BIG LONGKANG = OUT.. 2) fits all requirement : STRONGLY RECOMMENDED 3) fits all requirement : STRONGLY RECOMMENDED...BUT...conti in sg...$$$$... 4) nah 5) re050? nah...everything same as preceda2, still lose out, and more ex 6) fits all requirement: VERY VERY VERY STRONGLY RECOMMENDED 7) fits most req except for noise, STRONGLY RECOMMENDED 8) nah go for maxx, preceda2, f1, csc2 in that order
Robin 4th Gear July 12, 2006 Share July 12, 2006 (edited) I am weary on Falken especially when stamford comes in. I do not consider GR80 as a performance. read my post properly. i didnt say anything about GR80. GR80 not a falken model. it should be under Bridgestone Stamford are not the only ppl in SG that carry falkens. as mentioned, u might want to consider falken ST115. good grip in dry/wet Edited July 12, 2006 by Robin
Jamesgetz 4th Gear July 12, 2006 Share July 12, 2006 ST115 is only so-so in the wet/dry grip leh, compared to SO3, GSD3 and sport max... but value for money

Manfred_sg Neutral Newbie July 12, 2006 Author Share July 12, 2006 Thanks bro, good read. so it comes down to 2,3,6 which is PP2,CSC2,Sport Maxx. Assuming cost aside anybody can rank "quietness" on this 3 selection. I know PP2 is very new can just assume slightly better than PP1(old version).Actually only consider PP2 and sport maxx, but want to keep option open for CSC3(Sept). I will definetely get Continental if each tyre is less than $20 diff from the 2 selection but I doubt.
Furrynadz 5th Gear July 12, 2006 Share July 12, 2006 hmmmm csc2 price diff 20...fat hope bite the bullet and go pxx xxxg get maxx guarantee dun regret
Vit4wd 1st Gear July 12, 2006 Share July 12, 2006 pxx xxxg is not always the cheapest. After getting some quotes, I ended up going to another tyre shop at Paya Ubi Tech Pk, where prices were 15% cheaper, and the tyres were less than 6 months old from date of manufacture. ↡ Advertisement
