Kylelam77 Neutral Newbie March 19, 2003 Share March 19, 2003 Hi, i'm an newbie in ICE and that's also why i don't want to spend too much. While i have also followed the threads to build up knowledge i guess the best way would be to ask the gurus here what is a possible setup/workshop i can employ given my needs. Here goes: Existing setup: Driving an FLG9 -comes with factory speakers(dun know wat brand) never open up. -Sony Xplod cassette/tuner dun know wat series but looks pretty cool. 4 x 50W. -Xplod cd changer If possible, i like to keep the sony products above and change/add the following: speakers - brand & cost? - prefer sentimental/occasionally trance music Amplifier(is 1 enuff) - same preference. Possibly english amps as they are known to produce "warmer" sound? Subwoofer - brand & cost? No need those boomy type but a relatively good one. Thanks for any recommendations and places to get them... ↡ Advertisement

S2P2 Neutral Newbie March 19, 2003 Share March 19, 2003 hello!!! want to do ICE issit.... no need to change HU coz if you have a good setup, HU does not matter too much.... there is a couple of setup depending on your budget. Low cost setup: 2 component speakers on the front, rear uses stock. depending on your preference for Bass, get a 10 or 12 inch sub. Dun get a basstube coz your car is G9 and tube cannot bring the bass across on a sedan, only for hatch. 1 2 x channel amp to drive the front speakers, another 2 channel to run sub. rear speakers continue to use the HU to run it. As a stock HU, you probably only have 2 output for speakers and have no extra output for bass, so a pre-amp will be nice for connection and for adjusting the sound quality that suits your ears. Mid Cost Setup: 4 component speakers. Same bass. Get a 4 channel amp to run the 4 comp speakers. 2 channel to run the sub. Pre amps as well would be nice Mid - High Cost Setup: 4 component speakers. Same bass. Get a 4 channel amp to run the 4 comp speakers. 1 x monoblock to run the bass. Pre amp too High Cost Setup: 4 component speakers. 2 x 2 channel amp to run front and back. Monoblock to run sub. Pre amp. Super High Cost Setup: Dun want to go there coz it will never end.

Kylelam77 Neutral Newbie March 19, 2003 Author Share March 19, 2003 Cyquek, thanks for ur advice. But can i ask why do i need a preamp? Isnt an integrated amp good enuff? Also, can u recommend me some good brands and possibly a website i can read up more?
S2P2 Neutral Newbie March 19, 2003 Share March 19, 2003 website wise, i dun really have. all this accumulated over 4 cars and from friends. The HU we have normally have only 2 output (unless you pay 1000 for a sony HU, then get 3 connections). this outputs is to go to the amp and then to the 4 component speakers. this leaves your sub with no connection. If you have a preamp, it is able to help distribute the low, mid, high and bass and you get more connections to your sub. The preamp also acts as a "tuner" kind of thing. using the headset to tune, what happens is you get only to tune the treble and the bass. in a preamp, you get to tune the low, mid, high and the bass. so it is easier for you to tune the music to the sound quality that suits your ears. A preamp normally cost around 150-250. Brand wise....there is so many brands around. it really depends on what you like. my taste can be vastly different from yours. some of the good ones I have heard for component speakers are, cerwin vega, rainbow, infiniti, MB quartz and dyna audio to name a few. for subs, i think kicker is good but ex. cerwin vega, rockford fosgate. these are the brands that i find quite reasonably priced. some really ex. for component speakers, dun go for JBL, bought it once and hate it. cannot tahan my blasting. if you have the time, do come down for the meetup, couple of them have pretty nice setups, sparetyre, gad, luke etc..... we will be more than happy to let you listen to the setups
