JL Audio subs so weak?

Im currently using a budget JL Audio 12w3v2 sub, 300W RMS with a 300W RMS rodek amp. I admit i did blast my system but not until very very loud or inaudible..just slightly above..and sub right below the front dome paper look like a mosquito coil broken off liao..i don't is it i put my gain too high? or something else?

Hi Bro,

How did the sub sounded lately compared to what you heard earlier?.. if there is any diff, then perhaps the broken coil could mean a damaged sub.

 

If you are free, perhaps you can drop by tonite at Nasi Padang Stall for the gurus / bros to see and hear for confirmation?

I've already sent it to the speaker hospital at SLT 3rd floor. they charging me $40 and will be collecting in 2 day's time. actually my sub has damaged before ..because during run in i forgot about the volume has be kept low or not blasting it...now it broke again..When it broke off..you can heard it's hitting some thing..the first time when it broken u can hear mummering on the woofer..like some alien talking like that..

actually, a sub breakin has many reasons.

 

one reason is OVER powering the sub, ie pumpin 2000 watts into a 300 watt sub. the sub will blow up.

 

2nd reason and most probably reason for ur case is that ur sub has been receiving a distorted signal, thus distorting.

 

maybe u enjoyin the bass too much to notice the sub distortion.

 

distortion may result from a dirty signal from your HU or your amp lah.

 

so just adjust ur gains properly.

I'm hammering my 10W2V6 (rated at 400W RMS) with a Rockford 1000W RMS amp and have no problems. You either have a lemon or something could be wrong with audio signals.

i guess im not satisfied with the 300W RMS power that why i turn up my volume high and the sub can't take it and it breaks.i need i really need to upgrade something at least 500W eh? How to check whether is there dirty signal/distortion to the sub?

I guess you turn your gain very low? I think you can get another 10W6V2 for your setup..haha..

check you subwoofer input connection.it is hook up in the rite position for a dvc sub.wrong connection will kill your sub.

Wiring is definately correct, in parallel at 2ohm.. if series it's 8ohm..which is better?

erm...where you buy the w3v2? fyi, there is a lots of this model's cheong one in the market, i saw in KL and here also have.

offcos 2ohm is better.you might set you gain too much

buying in SLT is high risk you can get fake stuff, how much you pay for it? in Msia it is less than RM200 only for fake one

maybe is not fake .is becos made in Asian countries ,that is why cheap.
