If the hydraulic power steering is NOT run on belt, it will not cause much power/fuel loss. Unfortunately most cars Power steering pulley run on belt.

isnt it clear that altis on spec vs avante on spec + other esthetic factor, avante shall be more expensive? did you ever see a korean maid in singapore serving local chinese/ malay/ indian family? or rather have you ever seen any korean construction worker working in the construction work site carrying bags of cement???

this show the standard living in thai and korea are diff, so how could a better spec car manufacture in korea be cheaper than a car assemble in thailand plant with thai workers by 6K? IMO, altis should be cheaper by 6K for what its selling now, the only thing Y altis was selling at this price is becos it's a TOYOTA, pay more for branding... but not quality... is time to wake up!!!

Ha Ha, let's take this as a joke. Meaning the thaiyota is just like buying the LV in thai ! Get it ?

Test drove Avante.

Thumbs up for

- clean nice interior

- pretty quiet

- smooth pickup (very suitable for city driving)

- good looks (much better than Altis)

- good hp for 1.6

Only thing dislike is very light steering. Driveability still lacks compared to Civic 8th and even 7th gen Civic.

For a few thousands more than Altis, still a better buy in my opinion.

So wat a u waiting for? [laugh]

Don't think hydraulic power steering draws much fuel. [laugh]

Aircon especially powerful ones may be the culprit.

To get a better fuel economy, should use roads with less traffic, lights and jams. [laugh][laugh]

Want good Fc, don't go to city and stick to highway loh! [laugh] Just enjoy the ride lah.

Test drove the Avante last Fri, 22 Sept

Thumbs up:

Good pickup

Great brakes

Comfy and very nice interior

Lots of cubby holes for stuff and drinks

Looks sleeker than the Altis

Thumbs down:

Suspension still not up to par (wifey didn't like the suspension, still bumpy)

Local fitted Pioneer single CD ICE sticks out like a sore thumb

Given a choice, I would have probably picked the Avante cos the Altis is going to be phased out soon and its made in Thailand. The electronic steering is great too. Comes woth Tuff Kote and Sound Clad, alloy rims, leather seats, reverse sensor as basic. If the FC lives up to its claims, it will be a great buy.

Unfortunately, given my criteria to ferry 2 babies, maid and wifey, the Altis still win in terms of boot space, suspension and backseat width. No ugly ICE unit in the Altis but an integrated one too.

With the price drop in the Altis now, will most likely end up getting an Altis.

One more for the forgettable crowd...... [laugh]

If Altis price drops, many existing owners will lose pants and panties.

i saw many units of pre-owned Altises for sales. actually Altises are over-supplied.

It may be wiser to buy a pre-owned one, there is no difference btw new and

pre-owned, it is a point A-B car only.

You're right. but asking price may be far from selling price.

you can easily get a decent altis for as low as $45k for a

year old. Even at $45k, it is considered as high price,

considering paper value + export value ($6K?)

anyway, the agent has so many altis that, they have to lay-long

the altis now. [laugh]

45k??? Are you sure??? When I was shopping around last month, the best I got was 50k for a 18 month old, not so well-maintained one [hur] Dealer told me, "better buy now, I have someone seeing it tomorrow!"

2 babies? Twin? [sweatdrop] I do agree that Avante ICE is a letdown. [:|] In general, I will get older model for more $$ value.

Yeah, I got twins...1 boy and 1 girl [thumbsup]

Get an older model? You referring to getting a 2nd hand Altis??

Might consider that is the price diff is really big and the condition of the car is good.

Somehow, the Avante still charms me....too bad about the ICE, suspension and boot layout (might not be able to fit my twin stroller due to the wheel arches jutting so much into the boot).

hi khaine,

dun think the boot for altis is bigger than avante, its just the design of the avante boot. y not let me know when u coming, bring in the stroller, put into the boot n see how it fit?

avante is nice, modern design, instead of the usual "ah pek" design u see on the other model, u know wat i mean? :)

cheers
