I was wondering if these things are snake oils. Read this :

"Fundamentally, once the mixture is lit, it's lit. A fire doesn't burn hotter because you use a bigger match to light it; a bigger spark won't make the fuel/air mixture burn any hotter either. I have carried out many engine experiments involving changing ignition energy, and while there are some marginal benefits in extreme conditions (cold, damp, etc), the overall effect on power and fuel consumption on any modern engine is negligible.

Some devices also claim to make the mixture burn more quickly. Even if this were possible (and it is most unlikely), a faster burn does not usually translate into better fuel efficiency. See the turbulence page for more information. Indeed, a more rapid burn might actually be damaging to an engine because it could promote knock unless the ignition timing is retarded appropriately. "

I missed this thread. I don't suggest him to get any other coil packs. His ignition is COP. It is already damn powerful. Nothing much he can do.

For the older magnetic pick up or Hall effect ignition systems, the MSDs and their ilk are good.

However for the modern stock car, I doubt there is improvement unless you mod until it has no semblence to the original engine with turbo, high compression or bigger fuel injectors.

The DIS and COP ignitions systems already so damn powerful. In the past, you have the standard sotong head dizzy. Now 2 plugs share 1 dizzy or in the case of COP, 1 plug one coil driver. Definitely very powerful.

There are however very special cases, BUT, you can get away with using cooler plugs and reducing plug gap.

Bros,

Any feedback on TM Ignite Rev?

Thx [nod]

Hi Bro.. used Ignite rev on my ex corolla.. Its a add-on to the spark plug cable which increase volts to the plugs.. Very good pickup after installing.. Didn't want to try other products which boosts the coils as i heard that long term usage will damage the coils and in turn more repair $$. Now just change car and dekitted everything except ignite rev. meaning stock + ignite rev.. hmm.. feels the same with and without my other mods.. haha.. by the way, i'll selling off the set as my new car can't fit. Hmmz... obviously you can see i know nothing abt his system. if it is an older model then he might benefit from new coilpacks, but if its newer then i doubt that he'll feel any difference even if there was.

There was a difference in the COP systems on the 180sx's, BUT mind you the aftermarket change was from 15yr old coilpacks so i'm sure it might have degraded in some sense. The other good scenario was when we raise boost substantially and want to use the normally gapped plugs, the higher voltage results in a bigger spark so it did result in a lower chance of misfiring.

I doubt it would be if any real use in a NA car unless compression is raised (at the very least).

hi bro

has your baby, Sera, get u to your speed yet?

[;)]

was reading up on ignition system on 'how stuff works'

and man it's quite a read!! so much info... only make

a bit of sense to me! [laugh]

http://auto.howstuffworks.com/ignition-system.htm

anyway, the site point me to another site

so, got this from it, http://www.magnecor.com/magnecor1/main.htm

< OTHER DEVICES CLAIMING TO INCREASE SPARKS:

Never be fooled by any device that is fitted between the

ignition coil and the distributor, and/or distributor and

the spark plugs (sometimes in place of ignition wires) for

which claims of increased power, multiple sparks, and better

fuel economy are made. These devices have come and gone over

the last 50 years, and usually consists of a sealed container

in which the spark is forced to jump an additional gap or is

partially induced to ground on its way to the spark plug gap.

These devices can also be cleverly demonstrated to produce

sparks the human eye perceives as being "more powerful." The

only "increase" a gullible consumer can expect from these

devices is an undesirable increase in load on their vehicle's

ignition system. >

after reading about plug cable it's really interesting to know how

small things like RFI, EMI can affect the engine performance 'mysteriously'

cheers [:)]

In comfort and noise almost there [laugh] Just need to use better soundproofing material.

Unfortunately next up is a "performance distributor (gold plated endcaps etc) and upgraded leads (both cheaper than getting the stock item from toyota)... my FC is way too high for a near stock car (catback, POD filter and suspension bits only). Abt 100km (on an optimistic day) too high actually. Pretty much everything else has been checked and/or changed.

When i refer to aftermarket bits for ignition systems, i'm not refering to add on stuff.

I refer to full replacement items like the Splitfire and FET coilpacks, which have more coils than the standard nissan item.
