Oyama Neutral Newbie October 24, 2006 Author Share October 24, 2006 But LGT, ppl will say Im drivin my dad's car. Im still in my 20s, so... thats why I chose gti or rex. But then again, still considering. Anyway, any idea on how to rid of an 02 civic hatch ? Sell or scrape would be a better choice ? ↡ Advertisement
Relagsingh 4th Gear October 24, 2006 Share October 24, 2006 Hmmm... maybe you would wana ask some of the LGT owners here. I reckon there are some younger ones. 20s ok liao lah. A spruced up LGT looks cool too. I doubt WRX insurance will be cheaper than LGT also... I THINK. Any experts here can share? Anyway if between WRX and GTI, i think it's a no brainer. pardon my comment. GTI's design, technology, equipment and creature comforts are more up to date than WRX. Ok, WRX is AWD, GTI is FWD. But how much chances can you really exploit the performance of the AWD? The GTI is no lousy handler either. In fact it's very good. WRX is a good platform for mods, judging by the ones running our roads now. Since i mentioned this, WRX is becoming like VTi and SiR of the past... So damn common. Yet you consider AT WRX... erm... I'm not pro conti or what... GTI is really a better choice if you can afford it. Keeping it stock is really all you need.
Casshern Neutral Newbie October 24, 2006 Share October 24, 2006 IMHO, the AT would be a better choice in singapore. cos of the hell lot of traffic lights and traffic jams. my friend driving MT always complain of leg cramps after we got out of a jam, and he say he want to change to AT soon. Of cos, i'm an AT driver myself and i find myself itching to change shifts sometimes with a MT car. but u stated u like AT drives more, i say go ahead for the AT Rex! The Imprezas are a pleasure to drive, and AT with the power of a Rex is
Casshern Neutral Newbie October 24, 2006 Share October 24, 2006 oh yes, and those who had added the Golf GTi, i think u can consider it also its alot rarer den Imprezas, and looks really sweet. just strap on a CF bonnet and i think u are good to go, but you may want to consider the boot space as its a hatchback
Relagsingh 4th Gear October 24, 2006 Share October 24, 2006 Heh.. no need CF bonnet liao lah. Boot space for GTI may be smaller than WRX, but the rear passenger seat space definitely better WRX. I got sit in both cars before. The rear seat space for the WRX quite pathetic for current 4door cars.
Tomatoes Neutral Newbie October 24, 2006 Share October 24, 2006 Buy what you like. Quantum 5th Gear October 24, 2006 Share October 24, 2006 What do you guys think ? Manual WRX 2.5L, Auto WRX 2L and more expensive. Is there any reason for anyone to buy an Auto Rex ? Just cos of convenience ? But it seems the 2L have more bhp then manual. Any comments ? if stick on performance car, forget about auto lah
Oyama Neutral Newbie October 24, 2006 Author Share October 24, 2006 Whats the cost of a GTI CF bonnet ? My civic also have a CF bonnet. Im into this CF thingy, duno why.
Oyama Neutral Newbie October 24, 2006 Author Share October 24, 2006 Not really lookin for performance ba, Im not a racer by nature. Just that I want to have more power. So . . . see whats worth and whats not. Just gatherin opinions.

BMW320i Neutral Newbie October 24, 2006 Share October 24, 2006 What do you guys think ? Manual WRX 2.5L, Auto WRX 2L and more expensive. Is there any reason for anyone to buy an Auto Rex ? Just cos of convenience ? But it seems the 2L have more bhp then manual. Any comments ? If you want more hp, assuming you are in for some spirited drive. The MT would provide the extra edge for spirited drive. Have a bit of practice on heel toe technique. Launching is definitely much better with a Manual. But if your happy to do away with all that, AT would be just fine.
Spade Neutral Newbie October 24, 2006 Share October 24, 2006 just for your info, some of the fastest drag cars in the world, without correctly calibrated and tuned transmissions are AUTO. a record breaker, drag car from an American who races with his 20-B twin turbo rotary Mazda engined Datsun.. 6.33 seconds on the quarter mile sprint. He nails the same figure everytime because it is a no-brainer Auto transmission.
BMW320i Neutral Newbie October 24, 2006 Share October 24, 2006 His auto transmission isn't the same one used on a production car. To nail 6.33 secs using a stock auto transmission, his entire gearbox will be torn to pieces before it even move 50cm off the start line Their gearbox are rebuild ones which uses the Straight Cut teeth instead of the usual Helical teeth is can commonly be found in all production cars. Pfitner and Hollinger are probably very reputable for their bullet proof gearboxes. Your conventional gearboxes aren't the 6.33sec type of gearbox. Spade Neutral Newbie October 24, 2006 Share October 24, 2006 Yes, that would be it. Well the only thing these bulletproof aftermarket gearbox + race gear ratios type of auto transmission lacks is the "impression" that manual cars do feel better and it makes us rev happy to be able to drag the gears till we feel like changing gears or till the rev limiter kicks in. There was this British ugly car that someone posted here just a day or 2 back that went from 0-100km/h in 1 second and beats the Veyron - it was mentioned in the video that it was also auto transmission! BMW320i Neutral Newbie October 24, 2006 Share October 24, 2006 (edited) I'm not debating about AT or MT is the better transmission for a drag car. I think you were mistaken by the fact that I said with MT you get off the line quicker. What I meant by that is that in a production car like WRX, you get to rev it up, build up boost and dump the clutch for a quick getaway. For AT, slaming the throttle and brakes at the same time in order to launch will kill the gearbox sooner or later. The AT gearboxes drag car uses is not the same as the one in production cars. They shift quicker and are stronger but production cars do not use these heavy duty AT gearboxes. But ya, AT drag cars shaves off quite a significant amount of time. But it depends what you want. Drag cars go straight for their entire duty of life. Thats what they are designed for. Production cars still need to change gears, tackle corners etc etc. Production cars and drag cars are 2 worlds apart. You cannot compare production and drag cars. I'm sure our bro here is buying a production car. Edited October 24, 2006 by BMW320i
Spade Neutral Newbie October 24, 2006 Share October 24, 2006 I'm encouraging this bro (if possible) to upgrade his production transmission to a drag one! nevermind the fact that he may have to replace it once in a while... I think it's a worthwhile mod. ↡ Advertisement
