Garlic 1st Gear March 9, 2007 Share March 9, 2007 Does this apply to all 30wt oils, even the premium ones? ↡ Advertisement
Spidercool 1st Gear March 12, 2007 Share March 12, 2007 It is not meaningless, these figure can be use as a baseline. The figure can also be use to compare with other analysis with similar engine. Overall wear rate is pretty normal, except the shearing down from 13.8cSt to 12.8cSt, Oxidation 36, Nitration 16 & Sulfation 28 is very very low which show's the oil is not overheat or even stress(good cooling system). Si at 11 is very low which also indicate his air filter is tight and working fine. Pb at 0 also show's very good bearing protection(very mild driving). Sulfur at 15000 are a form of additives, nothing meaningfull about these figure though. Zn of 1184 does shows that is oil is pretty robust in anti-wear additives. TAN 3.31 look pretty high though for 7.5k usage as normally the oil acid fighting additives are depleted when TAN exceed 1/2 of the oil virgin TBN number(RP 10w40 virgin TBN are 10.4) So overall, pretty normal result. Can try something thinner next oil change, maybe a 30wt. Still meaningless to me. I'm in this field for yr info. Oil sampling is so common to me. I even have with me a bottle of aero oil from customer in my office yet to anaylse. Not yet send out due to uncertain which oil sump the oil was collected. My advise is don't waste $ unless you are collecting the oil very frequently. Cheers.

Kklee 6th Gear March 12, 2007 Share March 12, 2007 Usefulness depends on what one wants out of the UOA. Maybe as an interest or wanting to keep the car for the full 10 years! UOA would be useful when deciding between 5k or 10k oil change interval.
Zniper 2nd Gear March 12, 2007 Share March 12, 2007 wat's UOA?? kind of interesting.... can any fill me in?
Kklee 6th Gear March 12, 2007 Share March 12, 2007 To put it simply, Human -> Blood -> Blood Test Car Engine -> Engine Oil -> UOA (Used Oil Analysis) How to got about it? a) Buy UOA Kit b) When changing engine oil, take a sample. c) Put postage, send to testing lab (usually USA). d) Gets results, post and discuss here. e) Reply to the next person who ask what is UOA. Where to buy UOA Kit? Ask Trex101.
Genie47 1st Gear March 12, 2007 Share March 12, 2007 It is useful. Mine is done every year. Not every oil change but every year.

Been doing the SOAP and JOAP(USA) sampling using Spectro M machine myself for 1-2yrs. You do know that oil sample had to be burned within 6 hrs for critical operation purposes do you? You wouldn't want the aircraft be flying if 24hr later you found your engine SOAP sample fail indicating impeding failure.
