Think its because its a decent car at that price with pretty good power and fuel consumption. I've been driving it for about 7 months and so far so good. Fuel consumption is about 15km/l...

I collected the car late Dec, have been doing 100km per day on average. For the noise, from my observation, comes mainly from 3 areas, and is speed dependent.

1. Engine - Loud at above 2k rpm. Very loud at 2.8k rpm and above. (Personal judgement)

2. Road/tyre noise - gets loud above 30~40km

3. Wind (before adding window visor) - not really obvious until 90~100 km/h

3.1 Wind after window visor - obvious at above 60 km/h

So at slow speeds (0-40km/h), engine noise seems loud cos auto changes gear at 2.5k rpm if light footed, up to 3k rpm if heavy footed.

Once above 40km/h, road noise takes over, esp with certain types of road. Cant really hear engine.

Above 85km/h, road noise very loud, wind noise also obvious, huh? what engine noise?

BTW, 80km/h ~ 2k rpm

90km/h ~ 2.2k rpm

100km/h ~ 2.5 rpm.

I usually travel 5+ mins w/o radio to 'listen' to my engine, before hitting ECP.

Started out worrying about the loud noise, but once on the radio, noise still ok. Think main noise is still road noise. May consider changing tyres to 'quieter' ones as suggested by some threads in mycarforum if tio TOTO. =P

Can't complain too much for a car with good FC, ave currently at 15.1km/l (odo 2889).

90% highway = 16.79 km/l (max)

40% highway = 13.8 km/l

Thanks for the detailed description.

Anyone know how is the cabin noise level as compared to the old vios? I will find the new vios noise tolerable if it is not louder than the old vios which I am currently driving.

Neutral Newbie

Previous Vios, the latter batch comes with galvanised bottom.

So the road noise was poorer.

In new Vios, does it come with galvanised body too?

IMO this is to cut production cost.

Just curious about the "new" Vios Sports that's in the papers

Is there a major difference i.e., engine upgrade/re-tune, or is it just cosmetic only, i.e., adding bodykits, improved seats?

Thanks...

Are you sure galvanise helps to reduce road noise? [sly]
