Compact Sub any good?

I was recently offered by an audio shop to install this very compact sub in my car. Is abt the size of a reem of A4 paper. I was told is active and inside is a 8" sub. The box is rather heavy and the material is Alu.

 

He then said Pionner also have same thing more expensive and the box is made of plastic. I held both. The one by Pionner really like toy is like 1/4 of the weight.

 

So I assume their working principle is the same.

 

But I was told there is no such thing as a "small" sub as sub needs loads of space to generate bass. One will never feel the bass with such a small enclosure as the sub got no air to work with and 8"??

 

So u guys think this product works? Worth it? Is abt $200 new and installed.

From my limited knowledge, it really depends on the type of car you are driving and where you want to position your sub.

 

otherwise, the pioneer model is fine.

 

For the other product, you didn't mention brand or model.

Steelmate is a china brand.

 

Anyway, I am using the Pioneer one and it's pretty good.

 

What car u driving and did you go to Autotrend at Toa Payoh?

Not many active sub around and with metal casing, I think we more or less bingo on this liao..

Yep, you are rite. I have only seen 3 brands around. Pioneer, Alpine and Steelmate.

The heavy 8" sub is very good if you want to hide your woofer.

The overall sound is good, I have heard it in a Fit before.

It was fitted with a Pioneer 50wattx4 HU and a St**lm**e active woofer.

A hertz 3-way component was installed for the front set-up($800++). The hi and mid was istalled on the A-piller, while the Hertz woofer is installed in the door.

Oh...sound proof was done on the four door. The rear door speakers is just a 'cheap' pioneer yellow color speaker.

No additional amp was installed.

 

If you worry the sound not strong, why not install two of the active woofer under your driver & passenger seat?

If u do not really into bassy music, imho its ok. I'm using steelemate and its pretty satisfied with it. coupled with a HU with TA, I find it even better

if you not really into loud bass ,install a active sub will suit your need.most of the active sub is 6"or 8"with an enclosure.pioneer will be a better choice.

From PRC and not branded I question it's realiability. No warrenty?

 

My car is an Tuson.

 

Been there before but there always so crowded...even tyres not really doing liao. Maybe ICE better to make $$$.

 

Too crowded I scared become rush job. So still thinking. But the shop that offered me is not this shop wor.

 

Still thinking as boot space is very impt to me.

Go Autotrend must go early like 830-9am so not a lot of cars. I went there ard that time and they done up my Pioneer subwoofer in less than an hour...no problem so far.

To bieffe,

Install the active 8" woofer will make your car sound better. At $200, its the best upgrade you can get.

 

Of course if you want even better sounding bass but still want to save the boot space...then get an amp and install 3-way front speakers(Hertz,DSL) and two 6x9" woofer(JBL, Infinity) in your rear door. You will get good quality sound + bass without sacrificing any boot space. But this will easily cost you $2000++.

Anyway 6x9 how to fit my rear door the hole is not than big.... i reckon is a 6" now.
