My CNG conversion

If I can pull up the data sheet. There is a comparison between all the class of vehicles and they chose the Honda Civic as the example. Why? It has all the different types.

There is Honda Civic regular running on petrol. There is the Civic GX running on CNG and then there is the Civic Hybrid which is the electric hybrid.

Civic FC is the worst but Civic Hybrid has the best FC. However in terms of emissions, Civic GX came out on top. So the Civic GX is the greener car compared to Civic Hybrid. However when it comes to economy, Hybrid wins.

In SG, Hybrid loses on economy. Thanks to the weak gahment policy. thumbsdown.gif

I believe the 40% rebate on OMV is an incentive from the government, so not sure when it ends. Vehicles registered as NGV vehicles from new will get this rebate, which can be used to offset the other taxes payable to the government on registration.

so it does not apply to cars that are already registered say 1 yr ago and wish to do CNG conversion?

Hi Yeshe, you'll not gain anything from the government if you do the conversion now...I know, because I also wanted to convert...only thing you'll gain is cheaper running cost [drivingcar]

40% is significant ... for a OMV or 18k, that is savings of 7.2k off the new car price.

I thought that only applies to taxis, is the rebate given to private veh as well?

An example will be as follows,

OMV = 10,000

ARF paid after 40% rebate = 70% of 10,000 or 7000

Your PARF rebate for the first 5 years will be 75% of 7000 or 5,250

Compared to a normal passenger car of a PARF rebate of 83.5% for first 5 years = 8,250.

he 3,000 diff is for you for buy the CNG kit in this example, your scrap value will be affected so I won't really call it a rebate unless the CNG is factory fitted.

CNG is measured in kg. Not L but there is a formula to convert it to equivalent L of petrol. In the end after the conversion to L of petrol, you will find that the FC of your car is the same on CNG as petrol. Might be better if they did the programming well.

The main reason why there is saving is that CNG is cheaper than petrol. If the next few months see increase in petrol prices, your CNG installment ROI snowballs faster. sly.gif

Then you can turn to those with petrol and say "nyah nyah ni nyah nyah". laugh.gif

Serious. This what happened to Malaysian users. They convert and their friends laugh at them. When the petrol hikes came, the CNG users laughed at them.

Thanks for the explaination.

I am actually hoping the diesel tax system for passager car can be change to a reasonable value. With modern diesel technology so good, it real pity we can't drive a diesel car here. I had driven Golf TDI in Germany for many times for the past few year. It is really very good. The number of new diesel car out number petrol in Germany show how good this cars is. Germany had more strict polution control than us and I don't see those diesel car producing any black smoke.
