Hi

Am considering getting a new CNG Car. However still have some concerns :

Pros :

1. 40% tax rebate

2. Cheaper alternative fuel

3. Saving the world

Cons :

1. Limited refilling stations.

2. Have to fit large tank in boot, hence less boot space

3. Technology might not be mature in SG yet

4. In future, once car manufacturers come out with CNG factory fitted cars, might be difficult to sell off the car with the huge tank in boot

5. Seems dangerous to have a compressed gas tank in boot. What is the risk of explosion in an accident esp huge impact on the tank ?

Any comments ?

It is not dangerous. When petrol cars came out in the 1900s, horse people said cars will explode on impact too.

BTW, your petrol tank is flimsy metal. The CNG cylinder withstands gas pressures of up to 200bar, you might be dead from trauma but your cylinder will not have a scratch on it.

Buying a car so that you can sell it later is gone. Gone! People scrap or export cars now. For the CNG car, export it.

Oops.. Sorry, me forgot to take photos.. will remember the nex time.. according to him the installers shifted his 3rd seats forward. Distance between the 3rd and 2nd row is abt 12 to 15 cm for leg room. There is no more boot space left as the 60L and the box occupied 95% of the area.

How much space did the CNG conversion take? The whole boot gone? 2 tanks or 1 tank? Still got 3rd row seat?

Sorry har, quite alot of questions. Cause thinking of buying a CNG stream.

yup it took up the whole boot space. They used 1 60L tank. Shifted 3rd row seat forward. The leg room between the 3rd and 2nd row is abt 12 to 15 cm.

[;)] true but me family very small.. most of the time only 3 in the car. Thought of getting a weekend car which has restricted usage, 1900 to 0700hrs and after 1500hrs on Sat. So looking at a reasonably cheap ride to mantain like a sunny and fit it with CNG to compensate for it's poor fuel comsuption.
