Kaka23 3rd Gear May 14, 2007 Share May 14, 2007 Just pondering, many users gave advice to carry below half full fuel tanks (less weight) to have better fuel consumption. However the newpaper I read suggested to carry full fuel tank (to minimise fuel evaporation). So which is better? ↡ Advertisement
Lucien Neutral Newbie May 14, 2007 Share May 14, 2007 It doesn't seem to have any difference to me. Wat i do seem to realise is the Fuel tank is a giant space. When fill up with fuel and capped. Its full with very little air in it. By using fuel up, u thereby creating a vacuum state in the tank. Maybe it will minimize lesser evaporation this way. Who knows. LOL!!! Beei 1st Gear May 14, 2007 Share May 14, 2007 not much difference leh. Once i carry 5 people in my car(not including me), FC only drop by around 1 km/L. How much difference do u think a mere 20-30 kg makes, maybe 0.1 to 0.2? The only difference i felt is my vios is trying to catch its breath.
Boxster 2nd Gear May 14, 2007 Share May 14, 2007 I think fuel tanks won't become vacuum even if you use up the petrol. Fuel at higher temp some portions become gaseous state. In fact it is pressurised but this pressure is controlled by the fuel cap.
Yjhlouis Neutral Newbie May 14, 2007 Share May 14, 2007 For me, I think that it's not much different, but it will be better to pump your tank full and this will reduce rust in your fuel tank. Try not to park your car in sunny area as this will cause your fuel to evaporate faster.

Djcoolmax 2nd Gear May 15, 2007 Share May 15, 2007 you have to consider how close by the petrol station is and the time wasted each time you go there if you keep pumping 1/2 tank. I pump full tank every time....
BoneStock 5th Gear May 15, 2007 Share May 15, 2007 I think not much difference. Best to just top up full, enjoy your ride and minimize visits to the petrol kiosks. Imagine you take in one adult passenger already heavier than the fuel you are carrying.
Kaka23 3rd Gear May 15, 2007 Author Share May 15, 2007 I wasnt thinking of implementing either methods to my car. Was just wondering how much difference does it make since when someone ask how to get better FC people will ask him to go diet remove spare tyre carry less petrol and stuff. Just wanna know what difference does it make.
Maxxwell Neutral Newbie May 15, 2007 Share May 15, 2007 i think it does not make much of a difference.
Genie47 1st Gear May 15, 2007 Share May 15, 2007 I have a 68kg cylinder behind me. Plus 12kg of gas if it is filled. My petrol FC is still the same.
Lucien Neutral Newbie May 15, 2007 Share May 15, 2007 CNG kekeke.
Droll Neutral Newbie May 15, 2007 Share May 15, 2007 even if it makes a difference, i doubt it will be anything significant.
Lucien Neutral Newbie May 15, 2007 Share May 15, 2007 Oh it will. If u have the same FC as ur petrol. Say U pay $0.8 for 1 litre of CNG. Imagine the savings u make.
Genie47 1st Gear May 15, 2007 Share May 15, 2007 (edited) I wasn't using CNG. I was using petrol and the FC is still the same. Seems like weight doesn't make much of an impact to petrol FC. Edited May 15, 2007 by Genie47
Evilernie 4th Gear May 15, 2007 Share May 15, 2007 Weight does made difference in your FC but assuming the weight difference is high. As your car gets heavier U need to feed more petrol to power up the car to move.
Genie47 1st Gear May 15, 2007 Share May 15, 2007 No difference here. Driving style was not altered. 2kRPM upshifts. It didn't take more petrol because all along, I did not allow it to use more petrol. So you see, the weight is all in the mind.
