Rite Gentleman, this is just a friendly thread to find out what the everyday driver thinks and to see if there is a market out there in Singapore for Custom wheels in Singapore. Everyone has their own views. (U like Kopi & I like Teh) To each man his own poison, Rite. I will say that custom rims are more for cosmatic purposes for car proud owners. See everyone wants to customize and make their car unique. Their very own style. What better way then by sports rims, body kits, carbon bonnets, Wings, spoilers and even sticker decal etc are all for that look. For most cars here, I dun think they will get rims to improve their performance. I've seen many Wrx owners who have switched their rims from stock. There are not as many Evos out there compared to other cars models. But, I have seen lots of lancer owner using sports rims also. With all the new models out there poping up. Not just cars but SUVs, Big family car. Heck! I just saw a Comfort Taxi with Silver Rims just now. Haha. Kool Rite. [gossip][cool]

im jus stating the fact coz HRE is really good. im not their sales guy or anything lol. im also not condemning other brands. but if talking about custom rims, this is wat is all about, not about taiwan rims...

oh man this is hard to explain.

its like a ferrari owner explaining how good his car is to a cherry qq driver.

of course the cherry driver wont understand coz nvr experience it bfore.

You might want to read about what the TS is really asking and answer directly as in my 1st post to him then.

He's asking about the prospect of custom rim but you started off strongly on HRE, IForged, etc.. and made derogatory comments about Singapore car owners.

Now you go on to talk about them having wrong concept in Modification. Surely you understand that some people go for aesthetic upgrading while others look at performance improvement.

You can have your opinion of having just nice rim but then, it will go against your statement of having expensive and nice rim "that dont match the looks and type of the car. well, if u want to be laugh at, u can put it though. "

it's also hard to put a point across someone who is not consistent in their reply .. [:/]

or someone who might not even have a car to start with.. let alone a QQ

its coz HRE also can be considered custom rims.

its also facts that many singaporeans dont go for these custom rims. so its little prospect.

about bodykits, it also explains that car owner here maybe will upgrade the body 1st than

the rims. so TS might wana consider selling custom rims coz it maybe considered secondary items.

about nice rims, i sure can find nice rims that match the car. why do u think people that look for performance rims will sacrifice it looks? definitely i saw skyline, silvia in sg that have great rims.

again, you are not consistent. [:|]

Initially you said you hardly see any cars in Singapore that use nice rims and most stick to stock rim. Now you said you have seen it. So which is which? [confused]

and when did TS said he wanted to start a business. He's just asking for opinion for his research but there's no mention of him intending to start a business. Don't 2nd guess.

Rims does not improve your performance by much though.

It show off your brakes. WOAH A BIG RED BREMBO, WOAHH ENDLESSS.

"i rather get a car with a nice rims with no bodykit than a car with nice bodykit but crap rims."

I rather spend my money on performance part, than bodykits/rims.

Everybody got their own different view.

yea, hardly any cars. BUT definitely there is a RARE few cars that have nice wheels. eg, i seen an IForged wheels on bmw E92, i seen HRE on a porsche carrera. thats about it.

i never said NO CARS at all, i only said MOST of singaporean dont dig this custom rims.

the TS nvr specifically said want to start a business, but coz he is doing so many surveys, even tyring interviews overseas, he already has his target market, he wants to know the rules and regulations, finding shops, etc. who knows if he gona be a rims seller in the future. im just stating the fact about sg cars. maybe it will help him.

the bottomline is this fact, many singaporeans will not buy custom rims.

i seen it, u seen it, everyone seen it on the road. im sure u agree on this one.

of course, agree with u. hahaa. performance part will improve better.

but if talking about rims and kits, which will improve the cars the most?

i havent tested something like this.

definitely if using forged rims, means will be lighter and stronger, bigger and wider rims also improve grip.

but wat about bodykit, how much does it help? anyone know? does the shape of the kit will improve the car considerably?

You heard of aerodynamic and downforces?

And since you knew it's a rare segment in the market, and not only in S'pore, then don't make sweeping remark in the 1st place.

so more aerodynamic body will make the car faster than using lighter/stronger wheels?

u test it before???? eg. stock jazz with ings kit vs stock jazz with forged rims.

which one u think will win?

ya, its rare segment but specifically in sg.

if u see other countries, the niche market for this custom rims is quite big, eg.usa.

if u target the merc owners in sg, maybe 5% will buy.

but if u target merc owners in usa, maybe 50% will buy.

if u ever go to other overseas forums, u know wat im talking about.

merc, bmw forum. quite alot of them orders these rims and got to wait for 3 months at least.

not making remark, jus stating facts of sg car buyers behaviour.accept the facts.

Here's an interesting test to show lighter rims ARE performance parts:

Of course i know they help in performance. Even EZ-stab help in performance, so is it counted as a performance modification.

Quote:

"Rims does not improve your performance by much though. "

I am comparing them with main performance mods. Why would i want to spend so much money on a pair of rims that can only boost so little performance, unless i want my car to look nice. That is what i meant.

I'm not questioning the usefulness of rim vs bodykit but rather in response to your remark of how much it will help. I also do not question the benefit of forged rim since I have it too.

the availability of customised rim is readily available in places in US and EU, thus the perforation rate is going to be higher. That is the same with S'pore. If you look at the trending, in the olden days, most cars are mostly on stock steel rim and rarely do you see any cars with alloy. Now, you hardly see steel rim. That is the same with bodykits.

If S'pore have their own vendors that deal with custom rim, what make you think people wouldn't want to pay their money to such things?

Your evaluation of buyers behaviour in s'pore is thus flaw with such comparison.
