To my understanding, access to GPS within most areas in Spore & Msia is free for 6110. If u happened to connect to GPRS, then it's chargable. But N95 is free within Spore only. True ?

Don't worry, i've been using it for 2 mths already. Confirmed GPS is free. It's a nice phone but quite buggy, it hangs at times.

Hi there, as stated in the thread already,

 

GPS - no need to pay.

 

GPRS - need to pay : activated by using assisted GPS, AGPS (this can be switched off)

 

In short, if you get 6110, you deactivated AGPS and use, no need to pay a single cent for usage.

 

If there is a new updates for the maps, then u can decide if you want to upgrade and pay a one time cost of Euro 9.99

Most of the time "getting position" is taking way too much time

I was testing mine one day after lunch with colleagues. We actually arrived the destination faster than the 6110 connection to GPS

Maybe becos i use the AGPS.

 

ya... GPS is FOC, AGPS need to pay as it uses GPRS to get position.

 

But mine AGPS is FOC too, cos i subscribe to SingTel BBoM.

mine is quite fast...ard 2 mins average to pinpoint my location. Power consumption was quite high using GPS though.

May be it was not phone problem but user's... I am yet familiar with using the GPS navigation

So i suppose AGPS got voice to guide then must pay cos using GPRS is it?? And GPS without voice to guide is free to use??

 

How is the phone? Any other problems? Is it worth buying for the GPS thingy?

AGPS operates in blend with a technical framework that allow 3rd parties (telco operators) to reduce the initial time needed for the mobile device to calculate its current position

AGPS is Assisted-GPS, nothing to do with voice.

 

Basically, AGPS make use of GPRS to get its current position faster.

 

Voice Navigation is default in the GPS Application.

 

Actually not bad lah the phone, just tat the map is not updated. Navigation also no bad lah, but dunno y it alway lead me bypass geyland. Hahaha...

My AGPS is free becos i signed up the Singtel BBoM (Broadband on Mobile 512kbps plan) ($22 per mth).

 

GPRS is included in the FOC 10gb data cap.

nonetheless, i will rephrase, summarized, spoonfeed.....

 

AGPS ONLY helps in getting your location faster. It has nothing, none, zilch, nada to do with voice guide or whatever.

 

AGPS SOLE FUNCTION is to calculate your position FASTER. It is OPTIONAL TO USE.

 

AGPS help get your location faster by sending your data (Thus uses GPRS & incur charges) to internet servers to calculate your position. ONLY if you want a very quick GPS position, then you use AGPS and thus being charge for GPRS traffic by your telco. If not, you can still use GPS to calculate your position albeit slower.

 

Is it very slow? please read about hot/cold GPS start also in this thread or google it. But I personnaly find it acceptable most of the time but slow at times all due to hot/cold start.

 

In summary

Out of the box the 6110, you can

- use the GPS w/o paying (deactivated Agps)

- Maps are free, voice and navigation are free.

- Set Point of interest and landmark, change color, choose different voices.

- Basically it is OUT-OF-THE-BOX solution. You don't need to pay for anything else.

 

 

I have no major problem with the phone so far.

I & others have posted a lot of comments on the phone in this thread, please read them.

 

 

Whether it is worth to buy this HP/GPS thingy is completely dependent on your need for a navigation system. I have no way to tell if you need it.

 

I find it useful to travel to places i am not familiar with. But I don't need it daily to tell me how to get from home/office.

Here's my contribution for Nokia 6110 FIXED Speed Cam Location (Lat & Long)

 

This is for those who are using Nokia 6110 Navigator.

 

Here are some positions of Stationary Speed Cam in SG

 

You can save these as landmarks. You can create a new category call say Speed Cam to save them.

Then, enable the audio alarm at 500M or whatever distance. Once you are reaching these cams, the alarm will sound and you will drive at designated speed.

 

Please feel free to add the locations of more Speed Cam not listed here.

 

The accuracy of the location may be slightly a few M off (it's manually estimated). Use it at your own risk. Also I find that this position is displayed differently in different GPS Apps such as Nokia Maps and Mapking

I tested Mapking, but the "distance away from next turn" dun seem to be accurate, which causes me to miss many turns.
