Icq2453 Neutral Newbie July 29, 2007 Share July 29, 2007 Can PM me the shop you got ur Plasma 42PC5R LG? I'm also visiting the big departmental stores to check the prices of both LCD and Plasma in every opportunity I have... but decided Plasma is the way to go... Sony 1st Gear July 29, 2007 Share July 29, 2007 sure.. have PMed you. But take note that this shop have more dealing with LG, so at times, i find that they skew towards that particular brand. Go with what you have in mind and know your spec well.. Listen to their sales talk and compare technical notes. Don't just decide based on what others say. Anyone can tell you which is a good brand but not many can tell you based on spec and reliability which brand is better and more value for money except those you trust. Vyap Clutched July 29, 2007 Author Share July 29, 2007 agreed with Sony, know the specs well & hv in mind what u want to see & look from end user . I bought a pana 50PV600 make in Japan on Saturday. They delivered on Sunday , no regrets, the usual TV program 5, 8, kidscentral, 33, 16 etc.. is superb. If the source of the prog is low resolution ir. showing film historical shows, in 1950s then of course its lousy. Go for plasma, for watching fast action movies and TV prog , LCD is good as computer monitor.
Sirbrian Neutral Newbie July 30, 2007 Share July 30, 2007 congrats on your good buy. welcome to the world of flat screens. since you're using a Plasma, good luck with the cooling/ventilation of the TV for it too last.
Slowwalker Clutched July 30, 2007 Share July 30, 2007 (edited) I bot my panasonic Plasma abt 1yrs back. It's a 37", big enough for me as my living room is kind of small. Those big store SE usually promo their own brand. If You going for plasma, try to ask the SE show u all the dark, small figures(far object) in dvd show. Dont watch those demo DVD showing on the plasma, get those moive show. Then you compare them in different plasma. Here's a website i used to be there to do my research.... www.xtremeplace.com Edited July 30, 2007 by Slowwalker
Sony 1st Gear July 30, 2007 Share July 30, 2007 Care to sure why you get the 600? It's the previous generation. I presume you know that Actually for best picture quality, it's still the CRT, abit the size
Sony 1st Gear July 30, 2007 Share July 30, 2007 record your own tv program in DVD or bring your own DVD and try it. Their DVD, even if it's movie, are all in their best quality. I think Best in IMM got live feed thru antenna for local channels but they clever, they don't put all the different brand together to let you do side by side comparision. Madsumm 1st Gear July 30, 2007 Share July 30, 2007 yea i know only few makers of LCD panels, the rest just buy the panels. And i know NEC is one of the panel makers. but the thing is, all these brands have stopped producing plasmas. so i guess its an indication where they "believe" the market is heading towards. tats what i meant. lastly, the most irritating thing about plasma is the reflective screen. it makes plasma only suitable for dark rooms. I'm not sure where u get the skewed info from. Pioneer and Panasonic had just release a totally new generations of plasmas. And, they have indicated the further enhancement of it. Furthermore, Samsung had just indicated to go into Plasma as well. Even in comparison tests in magazines, both have values in them that sells. For bigger screens, unfortuantely, LCD is not in yet and will take them a while. Not even saying here that LCD is no good, but both has a selling point and I do belief, very different selling points. And again, the reflective screens. None of Pioneer and newer panasonic has glass based reflective screens anymore. Mine doesn't and worked perfectly in well lited room like mine. I'm sure bros here using plasma will definitely disagree with you on this point. BTW, I do have both LCDs and Plasmas. Somehow, I do feel for movies, Plasma really stands out. Even for TV channels on SD broadcast on my 50". Rgds
Madsumm 1st Gear July 30, 2007 Share July 30, 2007 Hi, Please let me know where did you find the info of "Plasmas losing popularity". Would love to read about it. BTW, LG's contrast is "pseudo". Go check it out. hehe.. Again, LG is using Samsungs panel. How much "contrast" can you pull out of the panels? Also, contrast is not everything. Again, on PCs. I use my Plasms 50" on my PC. Perfect! No complains with my LCD as well. But then, you have totally miss the comparison. Plasmas are made for moving or movies. Consistently moving images. LCDs are more for static images. If you use vice versa, I think you have to accept how the engine of each screens will drive this. I've just been to Japan and back. Only 1 maker, Sharp, has a 60" LCD. But the comparison with a 70" plasma which is just launched a few months back in Yodabashi-Akiba, it looks pale in comparison. Just go 3rd floor if you are there. The person there told me that somehow, plasma still produces amazing image in movies and HD. LCD still has a long way to catch up for bigger screen sizes. So from that experience alone, I belief, both have its unique selling points and if you are getting a TV, just take note of these for your decision. Vyap Clutched July 30, 2007 Author Share July 30, 2007 bro sony, yeah PV600 is previous top model. Now is PV700 but don't like the non-reflective, PV700 pic looks very flat, no depth (not enough 3D) similar to LCD. Any way, I got a deal I can't refused. When 50PV600 first launched less than 9mths ago only was selling abt $8K. I got it for$4999 w' extended warranty
Sony 1st Gear July 30, 2007 Share July 30, 2007 Well, since you already brought the tv, lets not discuss the spec further. {rices for such item tend to drop quickly over a short period of time, thus we need to know when is a good time to buy it. Usually it's when new gen is launched No point chasing after technology, coz our wallet is not strong enough to make the sprint.

Also, contrast is not everything. Bro, Care to elaborate on what you mention above about LG's contrast being "pseudo". Are you referring to their Plasma or LCD? If it's Plasms, LG is using clear filter which is single panel, similar to what Pioneer have. Cheers
Madsumm 1st Gear July 30, 2007 Share July 30, 2007 Hi, I did hear from someone that LG uses Samsung's panel. Given the panel has a limited spec-ed contrast, and to get more contrast out of that, they drive it using the software/hardware of their's. This is not what the panel is capable of, but more like running it via software. I'm not sure that is for Plasmas or LCDs. Rgds
Sony 1st Gear July 30, 2007 Share July 30, 2007 the 15000 to 1 contrast is for plasma but I do know that the panel they used is similar to Pioneer, so can't be using it from Samsung.
Dwoon 1st Gear August 8, 2007 Share August 8, 2007 Bro, My 5 year old LCD projection TV just konked out again (bulb blown and already replaced once 2 years ago).... need to quickly get a replacement as I don't wanna keep having to do a bulb replacement every 2 years or so. (Its a Samsung Tantus model BTW). Anyway, do you have any recommendation on which to get( Plasma or LCD) and also the model? I want a big screen (46 to 52") but also don't want to spend too much. The Bravia from the website puts it at SGD$16K for the 52" .... that's way, way above my budget. What's your take on the Pana 50" (TH-50PV700H or TH-50PV70H)? Any indicative price to feedback? I haven't had the time to run about the various shops to check them out yet. Thanks for your assistance. BTW, you sell the TVs???
