Looks like most of you guys had it easy during NS.

I must have done something wrong in my past life, kena posted as a field engineer. Back in those days, gotta carry and assemble metal bridges under 40deg hot sun in Thailand.

Even worse than being a bangala...

Only positive thing is - made some great friends in the platoon/company, and our friendship last till today.

It takes some suffering in the field to create bonds that can last a long time.

You from 30SCE too?

Yeah... you are right. It's only under severe conditions that we can see what kind of person he is.

Last time my platoon has completed our task, and resting, while the other platoon is still working hard under the sun. I brought a few man to pack cold drinks, and smuggled some 100plus and coke for them.

It's these small gestures that make them remember us for a long long time.

Nah haha not frm them. I only noe them cos they have one of the highest incidence of psychiatric problems. Obviously their training is dam siong jawdrop.gif

"psychiatric problems"...

I remembered I used to have a recruit who displayed "psychiatric problems". He's always in a daze and appear not to understand instructions.

During one of the weekends, he was spotted havoc-ing like a chao ah beng in one of the pubs. nbz.. so much for psychiatric problems... [laugh]

Some people can just do anything to have an easy life in NS. Can't blame them actually. How many of us are actually willing to serve?

There r some cao keng ones, some real ones of course.

Quite sad. Of corse some of them just cant survive in an army, where in the outside world they can hide themselves n still function somewhat.

Unfortunately if u keep persisting in such behaviour, most of the time u'll succeed at least partially cos all doctors tend to give their pts the benefit of doubt, even if u tink its cao keng.

Maybe he is a Schizo...that might explain the split personality syndrome or maybe a more simpler explanation is he is still having hangover from "grass" during his weekend marijuana parties....

Depends what u want.. pride or just slacking through.

For me, NS is just an opportunity to keep fit. Before, i couldn't even get a silver. now, gold twice liao plus cleared SOC.

IMO Do not go sispec to become a 3SG. It's the worse rank u can get, always sandwiched between the men and officers. wtf. esp if u get those ah bengs or those that like to bargain or guai lan men, and u are those quiet type. If those A lv men, then not so bad..

Either u are confident of getting into OCS, or just put no for the commander's survey.

Special moments in NS? book out day lor.. besides that, being here is a total waste of time. Came in with this perspective, and now i still have it.

But. where else can u do alot, or nothing, and still get the same pay? [sly]

my point of view... [;)]

btw, don't have to know how to swim. Their so-called swimming lessons are just pool waddle time, splash water.. get wet. etc.

Unless u wanna go guards or infantry which need to do river crossing, then maybe must know how to swim.

And, a few yrs time. i think should be much more slack..

Now i just heard from the new men frm BMT, the SOC rundown is only 50m before and after instead of the actual 700m and 600m. my time, last yr july batch, did the full rundown once and tt's it.

Don't wroory about the swimming thing... I too didn't know how to swim... Only learn it when I'm in NS...

Anyway, the facilities has been upgraded to the point that it's like a holiday chalet (P. Tekong) so you should not have a problem with it... The training is not as siong as before due to something called TSR (Training Safety Regulation)... It's just you have to deal with the human relationships with your company mates... That's the hard part about NS...

wah thanks for the inputs!! Actually is NS similar to OBS? Just went for obs this year and what you all describe about ns is very similar to obs leh. [rolleyes]

OBS is not very regimental... Even if it is (it was rather relax when I was there), it's only for a few days but BMT is for 12 weeks... NS instills discipline into you... Also gives you a chance to interact with people of all walks of life...

One advice for you... Treasure your BMT days... It'll be the most memorable time in your entire NS stint...

OBS - You make mistake, no problem.

NS - You make mistakes, depending on the severity, you will kena:

(i) Corporal punishments (eg. push ups)

(ii) Confinements

(iii) Extra Duties

(iv) Stoppages of Leave

(v) Detention Barracks.

See the difference? [;)]

[sweatdrop] Sounds kind of scary leh.. Will those from the higher rank try to make life difficult for you? After hearing those news about NS men dying because of the officer's harsh treatments I feel quite scared leh... [sweatdrop]
