Use Engine Brake

Yes, I use engine brake quite often.

 

In other case, if it is a long, isolated straight road to the next traffic junction, I will apply free gear and let it glide to the traffic stop line, tapping the brake lightly, on and off.

For practice, try going through North Buona Vista (The Gap) on 4th gear w/o touching your brakes.

 

You mean South Buona Vista road? Third gear is perfect on a 1.6L car. Fourth gear, won't it be near stalling?

most of the things are built to be used... if engine brake will damage and stress the engine than what for in the first place they have engine brake??? it only thin ur clutch plates that's all.... either ur brake pads thinner or clutch plates thinner, u still need to change them when the time comes... my 1cent worth...

Err.. i think braking waste more petrol and wears faster..

 

Engine brakes are much more efficient and as much as possible.. i try not to step on brakes...

Some pp just put to free gear and use brake when approaching traffic light.

 

I believe alot taxi driver do that too and never use engine brake.

 

not free gear or neutral gear...& or depress the clutch... @ the driven gear..just let go the accelerator...the speed will drop...press & let go the brake..then press again..should'nt be a prob to bring the vehicle to a stop....unless u r travelling @ a very high speed...then bohpian got drop to a lower gear..thong gia...then press the brake...JMHO

hmmm...cab driver....they r professional...fuel pay frm their own pocket...parts paid by the cab owner...different concept liao....

But I dun think ever see any of them practicing this...kosong & let the vehicle 'guide' to the traffic light junction stop...quite a hazardous move...Dun think any normal driver will practice this...

Actually the main skill to learn is throttle control. Fine throttle control. An EFI engine can go down to 1.3kRPM w/o stalling.

nothing happens when i'm in 3rd gear engaged, clutch released, engine idling at 0.8k rpm moving at 20kph

another thing.. try not to free-gear then brake all the way.. not recommended.

 

best is aways try to keep engage as long as possible.. that is what i know.. best for reducing effort for the brakes to work...

 

come to think about it.. need to change rear rotors liao...:)

i guess she meant when she is lazy then she use neutral gear and use brake to control the vehicle.

i do that sometimes when iam lazy too,then put my left leg on my seat using just my right leg to control the speed of my car.

mine is semi-auto.. even now.. i use 2 legs to drive.. one on brake, one on accelerator..

 

 

err.. i think this doesn't sound right... again....kekeke

 

anyway.. i have a reason to do this... ;)

depressing the clutch too often makes my left leg tired.

that's why i need to give it a rest on the seat.

maybe you have only 2 pedals.

simply because, if your brakes fail, you still have your engine brake to help to stop..

 

 

and... brakes do fail..

i hv 2 pedals only.. my clutch is controlled by computer thru hydraulics...

and ... me not lazy but find it interesting to drive with 2 legs and solve my problem.... :)

my friend driving auto car also use two leg to drive.

like that can use heel-toe techniques easier.
