I also always see monks that chant for funeral driving big cars. So I think that is their "market" rate...dun think monks earn so little like 2-3K/month.

Morally, it's wrong...cos the $$$ are from donation from good wishers (for the running of Ren Ci).....unless he charge interest...otherwise all the $$$ should be used to for it's sole purpose of running Ren Ci.

 

But I agree that people shouldn't pass their judgement too early and compare him in the same league as Durai.

Don't think those are real monk. I know someone from a house temple in my estate does that too. He is both a monk and taoist priest.

To clarify:

12k salary was in 2005. In the article (Shin Ming, 08 Nov), ming yi mentioned that in 2006, although the salary was 12k but he donated 6k monthly. And now he's not drawing any money. Not sure whether the last sentence is true.

Beg to differ on the moral part in lending public donated money as favour. personal favour should comes from own pocket not public fund.
