nope its only about 10-15k cheaper, italians are lovely to drive with the nice exhaust note but their reliability is nothing compared to the golf which i believe is an over engineered car. overpriced too. maybe i should go for the test drive too.

went for a test drive, was told this car easily moddable to 200 plus to 300 plus bhp but dunno if the dsg can handle the extra power.

and that the fc is around 11 km/l

the car drives reasonably well and i like the styling but the price - vw makes at least 30k profit from one car - cut throat.

any comments

Gee i like both cars but i think they are very high priced.. Anyway imho,i think golf GT no need to mod unless cosmetic.

GT-goes from 0 to 100km in 7.9 secs.

GTi-takes 7.2 seconds to accelerate to 100 km/h.

Like not much different if u compare the ability, but of coz unless that 0.7 sec matters alot to u.

I agree with you on the engineering portion of the German. Also, the resale price should be better than Fiat. You only need to check out the sgcarmart of VW or Fiat or Honda to get the whole picture.

I would stick with VW because the emblem is much bigger and captivate my heart given such choices.

one reason is warranty and aftersales support.

the dsg is a complicated transmission, if it conks don t know if the pi will honour replacement of such an expensive part. on top of that don t know if they can properly fix the dsg.

they were selling the gti at 15k more than the gt (showroon unit) but actually performance not that big a difference.

Hi

Currently, only OETTINGER has the stage 1 program for the GT, brings it up to 195 bhp, for slightly above $2k.

doing so will void your warranty from the car seller be it VGS or PI but OETTINGER will warranty the engine for 1 year. ( i stand corrected )

For comparison, stock GTI puts out 200bhp.

Yes, the DSG gearbox can take up to close to 350nm of torque if i remember correctly, plently of GTIs running ard in stage 2 programs putting out close to those figures. For comparison, GT has 240 nm of torque in stock form, from 1750rpm onwards. Mightly strong low end, minimal turbo lag.

To calculate profit margins here in SG, the figure of 2.35 is usually multiplied by the OMV. ( after which add in the current COE )

GT average OMV is about 28k.

Other factors like half year road tax, IU unit, and the usual mambo jumbo, should be included.

So yes, you are correct, profit almost/exceeds 30k, depending on lastest selling price.

GT is still flying off the shelves. U are unlikely to get any perks nor discounts from the SEs for this same reason.

Profile of customers buying VW do not mind the profit margins. I have this personal belief many dun even take a loan or a very short one.

In my opinion, the price of GT will go up, as it has since the introduction in May07, from 100k to the lastest 107k i hear?

good thing is, all golf models are holding their resale very well, in the context of SG car resale market. had much fun shopping for a used one but the math dun add up cos they hold value so well, so i got a new car instead. Having said that, used car markets may also crash overnight, not something we can control so dun sweat it.

you will be pleased to know i average 12.4km per litre. Paper specs list as 13.9km per litre.

Yes, i drive hard and fast. Would have bought something else if i wanted to drive slow.

If you want raw bhp, get a WRX or EVO for the matter. With all things being equal, these 2 cars are much faster in stock form as compared to GTI/GT

Buy a VW for the love of it.

A very tough decision to make for me as well then, to buy the GT from PI or VGS.

I particularly liked the sunroof.

Let me share what i found out.

PI GT comes with

1) Electric driver seat

2) Bi Xenons

3) Sunroof

4) 18' rims

5) Slightly higher OMV ( i have no proof backing this )

The DSG have been in use in the GTI for a while now, very rare complications. The worry rather, is the SC combination with the TC, working in synergy.

Deliberated for a while, decided to buy from agent, for 2 personal reasons

1) First time new car buyer. Always believed in resale.

2) Want peace of mind. Unlimited warranty for 2 years, drive all you want. After warranty, its still an agents' car, servicing still done at VGS but not free thereafter of course.

Also, VGS had ready stock, PI needed to wait 3 months. I m an impatient guy. laugh.gif

I went to compare the GT and GTI. I was very surprised with the GT. Pick up was astonishing. However, something just wasn't right. I don't really know what exactly but it seems to be the power delivery, especially from 3rd to 4th gear. I'm guessing that it could be the transition from the supercharger to turbocharger (or the other way round). However, if you're not as picky as I am, then it's a wonderful car.

I'm even picky about the knob on the shift stick, just didn't like the chunky one compared to the GTI's. Anyway, I did a breakdown of the costs and it seems like for a few k more, the GTI is a better buy without considering annual fixed expenses like road tax and FC. One thing for sure is the DSG is as sweet as they come (drove selespeed and manual). My next car will have a DSG, that's for sure.

I've my sights set on a GTI but haven't pulled the trigger yet due to the uncertainty in global economics. Don't ignore the signs out there, a 100USD oil price will send many economies into a tail spin. Singapore won't be spared. Think before committing, consider a used. I've seen several people sink into financial crisis just because of over committing (case in point, GTI).

this is my take on the GT. firstly, it looks very normal. nothing wrong with that but shouldn't a sporty car create some heartstopping moments when u look at it. the GTI is nearly there but when u put a 147 beside it, that lower cost 147 looks more striking. ok, this is getting too sentimental.

on a serious note, the Bravo looks better but it's slower & thirstier according to Wheels mag. but at the moment, the Type R seems to be the best bet. saw the pricing at 93k. how to ignore the Type R when the GT is similarly or higher priced? get the Type R, u get more stares, more thrills, more fun with that pure manual and oh, less electronic problems.
