The tabby probably went to look for food as they need to eat more in order to produce milk for the kittens. What I did last time is to regularly buy food for the tabby so that she won't move around too much and leave the kittens in danger. I did that till the kittens grew past the critical period as kittens.

In fact, when you took the kittens away, she probably panic and wonder where they went.

 

To add on, for one of the kittens, she grew up and has already become a grandma! Reason? I continue the same thing for the subsequent litters and understood a little more practical information for cats/kittens.

 

Why I didn't bring back the kittens? I've got a dog at home
