in the usa, cars will stop upon hearing the siren of the ambulance to let them pass. in s'pore, we do not stop for ambulance and instead, we tailgate and speed behind the ambulance...lol!

I used to be one of them when i was young as it was kind of convenient. But after i did it a few times, i think it is not really ethical to do that as:

1. It endagers your own safety

2. Don't build ur convenience/happiness on others' misfortune. The person in the ambulance might be really suffering.

So by that logic you're goin to assume that all SAF land rover ambulances are out just for fun. The sirens and flashing beacons looks cool huh.

In all my active NS life i've never seen the land rover ambulance used their sirens on public roads for "training purposes". Theres a directive about this, and yes we have to follow them rigidly.

The incident you saw was a fluke, admittedly. But if you see those SCDF ambulances are you going to judge them the same as the SAF ambulances based on the same thing the commando guys did?

have i mentioned before, there was a time i was in SAF ambulance to CGH, when suddenly during the middle of the trip, the whole wheel of the front right side of the ambulance flew off?

u are wrong bro... for amb rover, there is no SWD... SWD(stands for wat i forgot le), but it's a beep to stop ppl from speeding over 50km/hr... once over, there will be beeping sound and this beep sound cant sound for 10 times or more, if not the driver going to kana le...

but for amb rover, there is no SWD at all... but the best part is amb rover of SAF max only can go 80km/hr cos too old and engine dying le... [laugh]

actually i have a long time question which now u remind me of

for gahment ambulance, eg, SCDF, SAF

i think its clear cut road users give way

but how abt private ambulances? although i give them the benefit of the doubt all the time but is there any clear cut rule tat says its across the board

do they enjoy the equal "rights" as gahment ambulances?

cos most of the time i see pte amublances, the beacons are on, its like a permanant thing.

sometimes they speed on lane 1, sometimes they crawl on lane 4

because from wad i know, real time emergencies are attend by SCDF, the private ambulances are mostly for transportation. which isnt any kind of real urgent matter

i think my mom used to call these pte ambulances for my 90yrs old grandpa on wheelchair for his therapy sessions to the hospital n they charge like 200bucks per trip ?

they didnt take a cab as the ambulance comes wif a hydraulic jack tat can lift the wheelchair up without moving my grandpa too much

there was another time, someone saw a pte ambulance wif beacons and high beams blaring thru a traffic jam, speed thru the streets and finally stop at a bus stop n let a few aunties alight at the bus stop [hur]

any inputs?

Don't mean to aim at anyone but I do understand the doubt and concern, just like many of our motorist here whom had experience those "abuse" cases......mad.gif

To see one's doubt, just need to ask just a simple question: are we giving way to ambulance because the Law say sounsure.gif? or because we know (or don't know) that someone inside there may require urgent medical attention, so being a fellow human being and motorist, we give way so as no to cause any delay...smile.gif

Yes, there are cases (and there will always be) where some ambulance would abuse...but I hope these minority would not give any slightly doubt for us to give way, each and everytime.

Sorry to say, so what if one "suspect" the ambulance driver is playing a fool, how sure can one be? should anyone, base on his own past bad experience and suspicious, in exchange to any case of emergency being delay, refuse to give way to an amublance? not so right isn't it? simpily because the fact of fearful being cheated (in an abuse case), is not a good reason to take chance for a life in danger....sweatdrop.gif

Take it easy, nevermind if an ambulance driver take advantage of one's kindness by abusing his vehicle's equipment, because we are doing it as for a better reason......nod.gif

I belive you can take down the license numbers of vehicles who dont give way and report them to the TP. No need give face or chance to such people. Better still, ask veh commander video the offenders on his hand phone, let them jia lak jia lak.

Haha in reality yes i would be able to take photographic evidence. But in an emergency you kind of forget to do all these things; all you want to do is get to the A&E as soon as possible. Furthermore this was an SAF vehicle leaving from an SAF camp. No camera devices allowed bro. Hahah

I know I'd be a jerk to say, but be glad that there isn't some schmuck on the road that thinks you want to race with them and do tricks.

That would be the icing on the cake. How fast can the LR ambulance go? Hahah must be a real idiot to pull off such a stunt. My only consolation would be the LR topples over the fool's car during cornering due to its very very high centre of gravity.

Actually its not a matter of speeding because the officer in the vehicle with me plus my MO gave the green light to speed. Plus as someone here mentioned the LR ambulance has no SWD (Speed Warning Device) compared to the Ford Transit Ambulance(i din't know why?). But for a 20 odd year old vehicle how fast can it go?

Anyway theres no point speeding if theres no one giving way. And yea, the traffic was considered fairly light, no bumper-to-bumper jams etc.

Actually i think every EMR (Emergency Medical Response) vehicle be it privatised or government should have equal treatment on the road.

When you see an ambulance speeding on the way to the A&E, what's your initial reaction? Some would say ,"Oh poor thing, someones going to die..."

Why not think of it as "someone might be saved...".

Cheers

Reminds me of 1 incident that my veteran reservist drivers told me

they were in training in ROC Taiwan when their 3 tonner ''sway sway'' broke down...

at the front gate of a brothel.

Forgotten whether its' tyres punctured or what..

What I know is all drivers alight from the tonner for a chicken farm visit amidst waiting for the recovery vehicle to arrive....

Hopefully (fingers crossed) that incident will be a thing of the past. The new Ford Everest looks very good for peactime medical covers.

Used to be a medic during NSF days..had met with circumstances where ppl dun give a damn to ambulance.

Was once on duty and had to send a very high fever patient to tengah air base after midnite..at the guard room the guard comm try to be funny by asking stopid questions like why so late go out ? Go where, how come driver not in proper uniform etc.

I explain the urgency of the matter and he seems cant be bothered.

Then i told him, "Sgt, pls cooperate with us coz U neva know the person lying behind might be ur buddie or your brother.." he kept quiet and quickly open the gate.
