Steering Vibrates when braking

Hi guys, before i send my ride for checks, i'll like every one's opinion on

 

why my ride steering vibrates when I am braking/slowing down between 40-50km/hr

below 50km/hr it still vibrates just alittle bit..

Can be due to multiple reason. Best to let an experience mechanic to check it out

 

1)rotors are warped

2)Brakepads are cracked or wound out

3)Tyres issue - Not enough air, holes in tyres, Tyres not patched properly, Uneven wear, etc

4)Need high speed balencing

5)Alighment is out

6)Your car accident before and the pulling was not done properly

If engine mounting up lorry, I think will be more than just steering wheel vibrating :P. Besides he said that only happens when braking

rotors are warped. Have it change or skim... it helps

What about the car pulling to one side during braking.....

Still recommend you to get a mechanic to check.

The cause can range from toe and camber setting to ball joint wear to steering column bushing wear out. One of the most overlook is call " critical speed" - due to design factor. At that speed almost all rotating and moving components give out the same vibration frequency. Changing some of the key components to other make may kill the critical speed range.

Most probably is due to left and right wheel bearings not properly torque or uneven wear rate. The other possibilities are toe/camber angle settings, tyre treads designe not suitable for yr ride and loose balljoints.

It may be simply a case of uneven road surface or worn tarmac. I find braking on unpaved roads or road with broken gravels may cause your steering to vibrate when braking.

Yes, if you are travelling in such tracks then it is best to replace the tyres designed solely for off-road condtions. I have seen people driving around in Sngapore Expressway in SUV 4x4 using off-road tyres - very very dangerous that is why we frequently witness cars turnturtle.

likely rotor problem.... last time my old sunny also the same problem, went to check cfm rotor but before i get it done, i decided to sell it...

Oh.... didn't know that worn wheel bearings can produce that effect as well..... I suspect they are pretty worn now at 110K..... and cam sometimes hear a soft "wong wong" sound.....

Jack up one side of the car - place yr one hand on the wheel on 12 o'clock position and another at 6 o'clock. Try to rock the wheel - normally the freeplay is very minute.

So I take it that there should not be any free play at all? or a very little bit is usual???

It's really difficult to get the feel unless you are in the trade. The best way is to use a dial gauge to measure the movement

mounting up lorry sometimes go over hump can even hear knocking liao lo.
