Snowblind Neutral Newbie September 22, 2008 Share September 22, 2008 Maybe you should consider a 06 getz. Still got a yr+ warranty. Or a kia rio or verna. They offer abit more room for almost the same money. When my fren sold of his 05 getz, there was problem with the driver door lock not workin automatically. Apart from tat, quite a solid budget car which gave my car noob fren no problem. ↡ Advertisement
Beehive3783 Turbocharged September 22, 2008 Share September 22, 2008 You pay 10K more for the Fit/Jazz upfront doesn't mean you get 10K more back when you sell or scrap it. There's depreciation to be factored in which varies according to the market conditions. Do bear this in mind.
Ekardo Clutched September 24, 2008 Share September 24, 2008 I agree totally.. moreover, will I get 10k savings in Fuel with driving Fit/Jazz.. but my worrying factor is the reliability...
Riceracer Clutched September 24, 2008 Share September 24, 2008 There is no way a petrol car can get 25km/L driving in Singapore. Even 1.3 Civic hybrid in real life gets around 17km/Litre and even the recent 1.3 VW polo diesel gets 22km/L only.

Kb27 Supersonic September 25, 2008 Share September 25, 2008 My getz is 4 yrs old. To me, it's not much different from the day I took. The door lock issue is due to a plastic clip that breaks off internally. A new door latch would cost $16. Other than that, I don't see other problems. Beehive3783 Turbocharged September 27, 2008 Share September 27, 2008 I guess mainly it's because Hyundais don't have a market value as good as the Jap makes. I believe that's the main reason. As for reliability, people are still sceptical about Hyundais from 10 years ago. I don't own a Korean car, so I can't say much.
James911 Neutral Newbie October 7, 2008 Share October 7, 2008 Ask your father or grandfather. About 40 to 50 years ago, no one trust Japanese cars like how people treat Korean makes now. 40 to 50 years later, more than 80% on the road are Japanese. See the technology of Korean picking up? Brands like Samsung, LG. Thats a cycle of what happened to Japanese brands before we were born.

Beehive3783 Turbocharged October 13, 2008 Share October 13, 2008 I don't doubt Korean technology now, but the problem is the people here still have the mentality that Korean tech is old and unreliable.
Picanto 3rd Gear October 13, 2008 Share October 13, 2008 right now, it should be the china cars that are still old tech and unreliable. koreans have moved up a notch or two during the past few years.
Cove 1st Gear October 13, 2008 Share October 13, 2008 (edited) I have owned a Getz 1.3a before for 3 years. Nothing wrong with the car really, just that i find that the engine will knock when i pump petrol that is less than 98octane. I realised that quite a number of 1.3a Getz have this issue as i have observed those Getz in my neighbourhood mscp with the same problem. Pump 98 petrol and you'll won't hear the engine knock. My Getz is 100% stock with regular maintenance. Other than this, there isn't any major problem except for rear brake drum piston leaked (common issue, was less than 1 year), door lock problem and radiator hose leaked. Engine still smooth and strong even though i have clocked 96k on the odometer, if you perform regular maintenance, this Getz would probably last through the 10yrs . Nevertheless, i still changed to a jap car after driving getz for 3yrs due to family needs for bigger space. Imho, the japs still edge ahead of the koreans in terms of refinement and performance Edited October 13, 2008 by Cove
James911 Neutral Newbie October 14, 2008 Share October 14, 2008 Made in thai are not thai cars. they are just japanese brands made in thai. just like sushi instead of dipping with soya sauce and wasabi, u dip in tom yam soup
Toalson 1st Gear October 14, 2008 Share October 14, 2008 Sorry but i disagree with ur statement on the need for ron98. My Getz is now into its 4th yr and it on ron95 and didnt have any engine knocking issues.

Cove 1st Gear October 15, 2008 Share October 15, 2008 I was like you too, disagree with a relatively new car with engine knocking. Brought it to KMC to rectify many times and they say it's like this one. I insisted that they do a complete check, after many visit to KMC and talking to the service advisor, they finally change quite a number of parts, camshaft pulley, throttle position sensor and knock sensor but still the same. They also did engine diagnostic but no error codes. Actually the engine knock is very mild, you can't hear it when all the windows are up. You have to wind down windows together with the aircon on, and gently accelerate upslope then u'll be able to hear the knocking, it only last about 1-2 seconds. That's when i also start to observe those 1.3 Getz staying my area driving up the same mscp slope also have the same knocking sound, then i thought that it's normal for Getz as what KMC said. Funny thing is when i pump 98 petrol, totally no noise and the engine is smooth and quiet. No choice but to pump 98 petrol for 3 years to prevent damage to my Getz cos i intially wanted to keep this car for 10yrs but then my family growing and the Getz can't accomodate, boh pian have to change car.
