Neutral Newbie

just look at your fan and aircon kWh figures.

the current electriciy tariff is $0.2262/kWh.

So assuming your aircon uses 10kWh then per hour you are paing $2.262 per hour....

Thinking about it in layman terms, the latter would definitely save much more $ as its just one simple device that uses electricity as compared to the air-con which uses electricity and water. [idea]

All I know is that I prefer the Fan as compared to the Air-con. As I prefer to be blown than to be chilled... lew.gif

Here's my calculation and assumptions....

A 16" standing fan (at my place) consumes 60W. Switching it on for an 8 hours for 30 days will cost

0.060kW * 8 * 30 * $0.2262 = $3.26 p.m.

Assuming A typical aircon with cooling capacity 6000 BTU will probably use approx 1.76kW and assuming with temperature control, over an 8-hour period, the per day average would be

1.76kW * 8 /2 = 7.04kW

Thus, over a 30 day period,

7.04Kw * 30 days * 0.2262 = $47.77 p.m.

Difference between FAN and AIRCON, $47.77 - $3.26 = $44.51

hot or cold, also will use fan at home..

already more than 12 hour in air con room for work.. air con not good for body.. alot of germs trapped inside the room.. if someone is sick, then the whole room of people will become sick on next day..

Go naked. Open all windows. FOC lah. [:p][laugh]

I only on A/C when I go to sleep and I set it on timer to auto switch off @ 5am cos @ that point in the morning is quite cool. I usually wake up @ 7am. By doing this I save 2 hours of the electricity every night.

Yeah, the other killer is GAS. Just to highlight, the aircon calc is just an approximate.

Since we're on this calculation thingy...

Notebook PC w/ 100W AC Adaptor - 0.1kW * 4 hours * 30 days * 0.2262 = $2.71

Desktop PC w/ 400W PSU = 0.4kW * 4 hours * 30 days * 0.2262 = $10.86

NB. Excluding consumption of LCD Monitor

Can't imagine those gamers whose high power PC is on 24 hours a day. [sweatdrop]

I live in a 19th storey pigeon hole since 1982 -the window unit breaked down after after 7 yrs of usage thereafter I decided to go natural (No more aircon) - I am still going strong. My neighbours all have since upgraded more than twice from window to Centralise units covering the the living and dinning halls. I am only the primitve guy in the blk left but I am happy that I have try to prevent the long term damages caused by articifical cooling to my body and the enviroment and also manage to have fatter saving account.

Try it , you will love it, your other half will hate it.
