Yes its true that Nokia takes a while to log on to the GPS. Reason being that they are using a siRF star 3 chip and also the antenna is located at the bottom of the phone.

IMO,it doesn't matter which soft u use,its the internal gps chipset tat capture sat. lock.

"Cold start" shud take longger ard 30sec - 2 min,fine weather,outdoor. Overcast or raining shud take longger.

Fastest i get is 10 sec. After cold start when u off and want to ON back,within 20min can get sat. lock faster.

Same for Garmin Nuvi.

I think navigator 6110 no charge...only charge for map updates.

====================

So the 6110 has "voice prompt" included & can use for free?

The updating of the maps is tru internet? Can I use MalSin maps then. I think they can b downloaded for free.

For N6110,N82, N95 can load Garmin XT without getting charge by the Telco. It works using the inbuilt AGPS.[:)]

=======================

So the 6110 can download Garmin XT maps from internet FOC?

Do u recommend it to b used as a navigation aid while driving in SG & MY? R the maps comprehensive & clear?

Sorry but I really noob with all this. I just need a regular phone & GPS to find my way around. [drivingcar]

Yes, you can DL GMXT for free from Garmin site but they requires you to purchase a lisence key in order to unlock to use your inbuilt GPS. Without that key, you can't use...

PM me for alternative... [:)]

N95 which i totaly REGRET. The only plus pt is the 5MP camera...

The N95 has alot of bugs with its GPS. That is one reason why i opted for the N82 instead of the N95 [nod]

Hi do you need to install other gps softwares for N82 or is the original nokia maps good enough? Need your advice as i've been thinking of getting this N82 but the colour, button's shape and reliability of the gps are keeping my purchase on hold.

Thanks.

I've gotten myself an N82 1 week ago. I must say so far I'm rather pleased with the GPS performance. Most of the time able to grab a signal under 15 seconds. Rarely drops the GPS connection when i'm driving (I disabled AGPS).

Downside of the N82:

- Colour is horrible

- Keypad feels strange (very similar to one of SE "W" series slim metal phone.)

- Using GPS navigation drains the battery very quickly

- Nokia Map is only free for 3 months. After that, you will not be able to use the GPS navigation function. Solution is to get the Mapking for S60 phones. It is a pay-one-time-use-it-for-life map.

Aiyah.... with the price of GPS units down by so much, just get a unit lah.... and keep your existing phone..... [rolleyes]

The pro of having it separate is that if phone is spolit, then you still have your GPS. If GPS unit is faulty, you still have your phone to use. Unless both also koyak at the same time.... [sweatdrop]

Then when you change phone in future, all your POIs, routes, maps, etc still remain with you in your GPS unit. No need to worry about map compatibility with other GPS systems, phones, or GPS units, etc.

Also a thing to note. If you use the GPS on your phone , can you still use the phone simultaneously to talk or receive calls? How long can the juice last when you use it for GPS and also as a phone (if not plugged into car charger). Do consider all these.

Ys sm holding back my purchase for N82 due to the colour as well. Hope the black one will be here soon.

Keypad does feel strange and might need time to acustom to it but think i can live with it.

A car charger will solve the batt problem.

How much does it cost to get Mapking for S60 phones?

If i'm not wrong, its about $70 only. Mapking have alot more features than Nokia maps. The maps are alot more detailed than nokia maps as well.

I am very anti nokia maps becos of the highly exhorbitant subscription charges they impose. [furious][furious][furious]
